UCLA Summer Housing for High School Student

My son (junior in high school) has the opportunity to work on a research project with a professor on campus. This is not through an official high school summer scholar-type program. If he did this he would have to secure his own housing etc. Duration of the project would be 4-6 weeks.

Would student housing be available to someone in his situation given that it is a short-term assignment and he is not registered as a student per se?

If on campus housing is not an option, what other housing options are available for high school students on or near campus?

I had a similar problem last year, when my daughter (a junior at the time) wanted to participate in a UCLA summer language program for high school students, which was designed for local LA resident and therefore not an overnight program or part of the UCLA Summer Sessions program. She really wanted to participate so we looked into housing options for her but at that time, I couldn’t find a place that offered any supervision/guidance, and I was not comfortable having her live there on her own. The director of the language program told me at the time that the UCLA Housing dept knows that this can be an issue, and they may have found solutions by now. Here’s a link to the Housing website, and even if they can’t provide you with an official UCLA option, they provide links to many local housing resources - [UCLA - Housing](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.3f8e7342ad4ca217b66d4ab4f848344a/?vgnextoid=eb2d396579b8ff00VgnVCM1000008f8443a4RCRD)
Good luck!

I am in exact same situation: my son is doing internship this summer with a professor. I explored every options. If your son is under 18, the only way for him to stay in a campus dorm is to take a summer course. Once he registers for a summer course, he can stay in a dorm, designated for HS kids 16, 17.

There are many vanpool to UCLA from surrounding areas, but the rider has to be 18.

I hope it helps.
