This is consuming my existence, please help:

I posted this question on already on a thread: I am TAP-certified, so I applied to Theatre/Film/Television 1st choice, Art History in Letters & Sciences 2nd. I ended up not submitting TFT supplements so I ruled that out early, but my admission decision yesterday only mentioned the rejection from TFT, not L&S. I called the TAP office Friday (4/20) and they told me L&S decisions weren’t out yet and that they would trickle out through the end of April. But clearly, decisions are out. Any info or advice about 2nd major consideration for a non-L&S 1st choice, L&S 2nd? Could what the TAP office told me be true, and do you know if TAP 2nd major candidates are reviewed after this first “batch”? Thanks for any info and congrats if you’re in.

What does it say at the admissions portal?

@LAforlife "We have completed our review of applicants to the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media, and we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission for the Fall Quarter 2012.

Competition for admission to this major was extremely competitive. In addition to your academic record, the quality of the written supporting materials and the letters of recommendation were primary factors used in making admission decisions. Given the high caliber of the applicant pool and the number of applications received, many talented, well-qualified individuals were not offered admission. Because of the confidential nature of the screening process, the university cannot provide comments on individual applications.

We recognize that this decision will be a disappointment, but given the depth of the review process, we do not encourage you to appeal this decision. The Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media has filled all available spaces and simply cannot accommodate additional students beyond those they have admitted.

We wish you success in your academic endeavors."

@clippers that’s great news my friend. What were your 2 major choices?

@Loccsta

Call them again today. Ask them if you’re being considered for your alternate. It doesn’t sound like you are.

@ethelyan Ends up I was denied for both major choices. I called and was assured that I was considered for both. The next day, received this e-mail: Hello,
*
Your were considered for your second choice major, however, not as competitive as other applicants who received an offer of admission.

Thank you,
UCLA Undergraduate Admissions

Fortunately, I was accepted to Berkeley for the fall, so I lucked out. UCLA was pretty difficult to get a hold of, and quite harsh and vague when I did get in touch, so don’t be surprised if you get some attitude. Hope everything works out.
