UCLA TSP 2014

Who’s going to be a part of TSP this year? I know I am :D

What’s TSP?

Transfer Summer Program

I believe it’s a 3-4 day camping trip filled with orgies, marijuana abuse, and older UC students acting as your parents, I mean, guidance counselors.

it’s NOT 3-4 days
it’s actually 6.5 weeks of taking classes at ucla :P

It a great way to get acclimated to UCLA… plus if you study its a great way to start the fall quarter with a great GPA

@Dagoberto‌

I passed on taking TSP classes at UCLA.

I think I’ll be fine with acclimating to college life at UCLA in the fall quarter with all the other transfers. :D

@Cayton‌ not all of us can be bosses like you. X_X (lol)

I also passed on TSP 2 years ago… I have regretted it ever since. but you cant turn back time…

@Dagoberto‌

Aww, you flatter me. :P

Why do you regret passing up TSP?

because I would have started the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA, would have made my life easier applying to scholarships, interships, research opportunities…

The only reason I turned down TSP is that is biased towards the humanities and social ‘sciences’(lol)… none of the classes really applied to my major. Then Again the Academic Advancement Program (AAP) has a bias towards North Campus majors (but that is the topic of another thread)…I didn’t know the impact GPA plays a role in opening doors…

Hmm, I may well regret not taking classes in the summer, but I suppose that making mistakes like this is part of the learning experience.

@Dagoberto, how is the AAP program biased towards north campus majors?

@Cayton Many reasons…

1) AAP is located in Campbell Hall (North Campus), as they say in Real Estate… Location,Location,Location

2) Most of the full-time staff comes from North-Campus type backgrounds… I wont 100% blame this on AAP since most STEM majors are not interested in working in education (dont know why)

3) AAP has the McNair Scholars program… http://aapucla.com/mentoring/mcnair-research-scholars-program/</a>
named after famed astronaut Dr. Ronald Ervin McNair.
this program is geared towards research in the social sciences… Even-through Ronald Ervin McNair groundbreaking reseach at MIT dealt with LASER technology (Phd physics major). A research program for URM’s named after Dr. McNair is more appropiate STEM research…

4) There is way more tutoring for "North-Campus’ subjects.

The list can go on and on… there is also exist a bias at AAP towards people that come in as freshman… so as a STEM transfer student I got the double whammy…

again… Im not trying to Bash AAP, I benefited greatly from the program. I just think that north-campus majors benefit more from it.

it benefits North Campus majors? Lucky me then lol

Yeah, it’s basically a mini burning man @burntcorpse

To be fair… they are tryin to burn in an enviromently safe manner (jk)
