UCLA, UCB, Cornell, NYU tisch, Uchicago, and up

I am a high school Senior and i am going to be applying early acceptance to cornell (w/ the others as RE). my freshman year my brother had cancer and i had a 2.0 GPA, my sophomore year i took 8 classes and had a 3.8 GPA. i played varsity tennis and i won best, history, science, and english student, as well as a tri-county biology presentation contest, and i got to meet a local state rep. I also began a “hit” comedy show on my schools bulletin which i recieved much teacher/student praise for (ive been doing it ever since). i was also a scholar athlete and have been every year since. my Junior year i got a 3.85 gpa unweighted and a 4.28 weighted, and became a safe school ambassador (a bullying-preventing student) as well as a volunteer at an AIDS food bank and a trained teen-clinic volunteer. i ran varsity cross country and did another year of varsity tennis. I won most fluent spanish student, best history student, and best physics student. that summer i went on a humanitarian mission to nicaragua with a close friend and it was amazing, i also took spanish 3 and pre-calc over summer. now my senior year i am the student body president and have a 4.4-4.6 GPA, and am still doing all of the things mentioned above. by the way i should mention i go to a backwoods school on the west coast, am white, and am fairly poor. its not like im in poverty, im just not rich by any standard. what are my chances for early acceptance to cornell if i want to be a communications major and a theatre minor? i want to do similar fields at my other choices. i have an SAT of 2120 and got mostly 4s and 5s on my APs
schools i want (after cornell):UCLA, UCB, NYU tisch, Uchicago, and, as stretches, stanford, yale.
Fun facts: my brother goes to UCB, i made a feature for my schools bulletin covering a massive school scandal that won best student broadcast.

I think you have a good chance in UCs if you are oos. The GPA is a bit low, but I think you can write a really good essay explaining it. Also, the upward trend will be very helpful.
Are you considering possible taking the SAT’s again? I think hitting a 2200 will raise your chances. That being said, your ec’s seem to be right on track!
Good luck!

Your freshman year GPA isn’t factored into the UC GPA, only grades 10 and 11. Hope your brother is doing okay. I like to refer applicants for the UCs to this link below. Click on “Custom Tables”, answer a few questions, enter up to 3 “mean characteristics” to see what the admit rates are for someone that fits your profile:

I’d say all these schools are low to high reaches, with the exception of UCLA being a very high match. You need to add a financial match and safety school to this list if you don’t have one. Good luck!

thanks! how much of a reach would ED be for Cornell? also, what other colleges (good ones) would fit my qualifications on the east coasty-ivy leagueish area

I think Cornell ED is still a low reach but not out of the realm of possibility. Best of luck.

I think you can do Cornell ED! Good luck! :)
