UCLA Undergrad film

In order to gain admission into UCLA undergrad film major(?) does anything one does in high school affect admission? Or is it all based of the first two years at UCLA?
Does a high school senior apply to UCLA, not doing anything in regard to the film school (or major?)?

I really don't know anything about this program, but I have heard it's good, yada yada yada.

Could someone please just explain what exactly the program is (I want to go into screenwriting, is there a program for that specifically?). How to get admitted. What the pros/cons of a two year program at UCLA has compared to a four year undergrad program.

Perhaps anyone with actual experience in this process could describe how they got in.

Just looking for some info here people,

Thanks

109111,
Sorry for the late response... let me take a crack at some of your questions.

1.) Most of your HS career won't matter for UCLA Film adcoms. HS stats will have no meaning but some of your film making and writing HS experience might come in to play.
2.) Yes, it's all based on your first 2 years of college, your portfolio, and if selected, the interview.
3.) Yes, you would apply to UCLA as another major (or undeclared), complete all of your lower division GE stuff in your first two years, and then apply to the School of Film & TV.

As an alternative, you could do the same thing at another 4 year school (or community college) and apply as a transfer student.

Each year the Film School accepts about 30 undergrads and it's about 50/50 between current UCLA students and transfers. Look at this slightly dated chart. Line items 10 and 11 are important for you. http://www.aim.ucla.edu/aprs/aprsrpt_film.txt

There's a lot of good data on that chart.

4.) UCLA's program is excellent and especially so for screenwriting.

5.) For detailed questions about the program I would recommend that you read the course descriptions for undergrad film in the UCLA General Catalog (courses 100-200):
Catalog: Current Course Descriptions

Hope that helps,
