UCLA/USC/Notre Dame

I’m just wondering if I have a shot at getting into any of these schools (and not “oh you ALWAYS have a shot at schools so keep trying” but a legitimate yes or no (possibly some explanations for why). I’m not trying to sound rude or anything but I am going to graduate this year and am wondering what a good school/s would be in my testing range. Here are my scores/gpa:

GPA: unweighted academic (10-12): 3.52
weighted academic (10-12): 4.0

SAT I:2060
Math: 750
Reading: 630
Writing: 680

SAT II:
Math: 790
US History: 620 ( =\ )

ACT: 32
English: 34
Math: 33
Reading: 27
Science: 33

So any help or info on the possibility of getting into any of these schools would be great (average scores of the following schools compared to mine etc). Also as you can see my unweighted gpa is significantly lower than my weighted gpa because I’ve taken a lot of rigorous AP courses but usually get B’s in them. I know colleges look at both GPA and course schedule but I am wondering how I would compare with someone who has say a 3.75 unweighted and a 4.2 weighted but an easy course schedule (very few honors or AP’s). Thanks for the help.

I have a 3.80, but haven’t taken any honors courses ever. They’d probably take regard into but not too much. I would say they’re all low reaches/high matches. SAT scores are definitely strong, as well as ACT. I’m sure if you applied for UCI and UCSB they’d be safeties.

Chance me? I have a thread that involves waffles. :D

I can’t say much about Notre Dame but from what I’ve seen in admissions regarding UCLA and USC (peers), I think your test scores are in the range. But your gpa seems to be a tad low (can’t really say for sure because schools have different scales).

Definitely good chance.

Hi ASenior! Yes, when looking at students, admissions will consider that you have taken a very challenging course load and would look on that favorably. At USC and UCLA however (I am not familiar with Notre Dame), you will find that most of your competition has also taken a VERY rigourous course load, and many have done VERY well in them, so they will have high GPAs with similar numbers of AP and honors classes.

Still, you “always have a shot…” Sorry! But really, USC and UCLA are not out of the question, you just need to be sure to have some matches and safeties to put on your list as well. Definitely apply, 'cause USC is a great place to be! Good luck

bump =P…

thanks for the responses. Looking for more if anyone viewing this has any feedback.

Are you in-state for UCLA?

USC will be competitive, since they receive a lot of applications. I would say Notre Dame is a reach for you, but apply anyway – it’s an amazing school.

Best of luck!

Do you know your class rank? It will give me a much better idea about your GPA.

are you catholic?

To casey2009, yes i am in-state, i live in california.

To bosoxnm3, my school doesn’t have class ranks. Even if you ask for it they wont give it to you. I would say i’m in the top 10% of my senior class.

siglio21, no i am not catholic.

need words for BUMP… thanks
