UCLA vs. Cal State Long Beach??

Hello, I was admitted to both colleges and now I have a problem. I know that UCLA is really good school, but the tuition and dorm fees are really expensive even with financial aid. Further, my major is undeclared. For Cal State Long Beach, the cost of tuition is cheap and I don’t need to worry about going to a dormitory because my house is close to the school. And, my major is nursing. Which one should I choose? UCLA or Cal State Long Beach??

UCLA

Depends what you’re parents can pay for. UCLA will (probably) provide you with a better education and more job opportunities in the future, but that doesn’t matter if you’re paying off thousands in student loans. If UCLA is really too expensive, go to CSLB.

It looks like CSULB requires you to apply again to the nursing major after enrolling there as a pre-nursing frosh. UCLA does not seem to have any pathway to enter the nursing major other than direct frosh or (external) transfer admission. You may want to investigate this further if the nursing major is important to you.

@tweetycookie: Did you get the direct admit into UCLA’s Nursing program? If so, I would definitely consider UCLA over CSULB, just based on that fact. If you attend CSULB, there is no guarantee that you will get into the Nursing program after 2 years. Go with the sure thing and do not second guess yourself.

UCLA no question
