UConn or UNH?

Hi, everyone. Still waiting to hear from a couple colleges, but it might come down to UConn (Storrs) and University of New Hampshire.

Cost would be basically equal at both for me. I like that both colleges seem to have a lot of school spirit, well-attended sports events, clubs, etc.

I know UConn is more prestigious than UNH, which I am definitely keeping in mind, but I don’t want that to be the only deciding factor because at the end of the day, I feel like it’s more about the work I put in, the connections I make with professors, the internships I do, etc, and I kind of doubt that I would lose out on a job because I went to UNH instead of UConn. I don’t think it’s the same as going to UNH vs Harvard or something. (Correct me if you think I’m wrong though).

I visited both campuses, but unfortunately, the only time I could visit was over winter break, so I didn’t get the real “vibe” and feel. I’m going to visit both again while school is in session but any info here from people/parents more familiar would be really helpful.

So what kind of person would you say UConn and UNH are well-suited for? Is there anyone that should AVOID either college for some reason?

From what I’ve read so far, the main differences (prestige aside) are that UConn is a lot bigger (campus and student pop), UNH has a smaller/quainter vibe, smaller class sizes at UNH overall, UConn is more diverse and UNH is very white, UNH is more preppy. Any of this inaccurate? Anything else that really distinguishes the two?

Thanks for any intel!

Unh has a train into Boston which you may like.

What major ? Just curious.

I agree with your assessment on possible outcomes. They will be due to you.

Congrats on two fine acceptances. I suspect you’ll find a favorite upon visiting.

Best of luck

Not only is UConn big but it’s laid out in a way that makes it hard to get around with dorms that seem to be far from everything.
