UCR or UCSD for biochemistry major, pre med

HI guys
I got accepted into UCR and UCSD as a freshmen
I live 15 minitus away from cur
my major is biochemistry in both
UCR : college of natural and agricultural sciences
UCSD :Revelle college
estimated cost in cur after scholarship : $9600 a year
estimated cost in cusd after scholarship: $8800 a year
I don’t know where to go I think UCSD is a better School in general but cur is closer to my home and I heard that it’s much easier to maintain a higher gpa than ucsd especially that I have been in the United States for less than 3 years so I don’t speak English fluently, I can understand mostly every thing but I’m not good at English in general and if I go to ucsd I have to take humanities which is a sequence of 5 university level writing English classes, and I’ll live far from my family which I’m not used to at all.
there are advantages and disadvantages of both school and I really need some advices
and if you guys know any thing about living in revelle college in UCSD and how hard its GES are that would be very helpful
excuse my English

Revelle is the hardest college at UCSD in terms of curriculum. Humanities classes are very difficult. It will not be easy to obtain good grades in these classes. If you are not fluent in English I would avoid Humanities altogether. However, UCSD is one of the best colleges in the world. #8 in the world in biology and biochemistry and #15 overall. UCR #184 and #113 in the world, respectively. UCR now has a med school but nowhere as respectable or well known as UCSD. If you pick UCR, You will save lots of money over the next few years and be near your family. It’s about 1.5 to 2 hrs drive from UCSD to Riverside. Starting 2nd year you’ll have to find off campus housing. If you choose UCSD, find out how difficult is it to transfer to another college like Muir, Warren… Good luck and congratulations!

UCSD is a butt-kicker; +1 on the Revelle humanities program. You will have a very difficult time there if you are not a native speaker of English. I went to UCSD many years ago. It has not gotten any easier.

You mention that living far from your family will be difficult. That is a very serious consideration for some students who do not want to be away from home. Yes, UCSD has a better reputation than UCR in your field, but you should do it only if you feel comfortable there. Have you visited? Where can you see yourself doing your best work? You have two great opportunities and you should make your decision based on where you think you will thrive as a student. Sometimes the better reputation is not as important as your own situation.

@bookguy @PadreDeTres @bighero8 Thank you so sooooo much for your advices and for your time.
i haven’t decided yet but I just got accepted to the UCR honors program which gives me priority registration and smaller classrooms, so now I feel that UCR may be better for me, but anyway I will wait until may 29th to submit my SIR. THANKS AGAIN.

@Mak1999, I think that’s April 29. You’re welcome, and best of luck.

Thanks
