I’m a second year Neuroscience major student at UCR, I applied and got accepted to UCLA just recently. My career goal is to get into a medical school after undergrad, and I’m concerning with the high competition at ucla. Right now I have a cumulative GPA of 3.76, which isn’t too bad, but I afraid if I transfer, my gpa might drop and it will hinder my chance of getting into a medical school. I was hoping to get some advice from those who did transferred from ucr to ucla, and what should i do ?

study harder, and do some extracurricular activities if you haven’t done any. Med schools will not only look at GPA, but they will also look at the extracurricular activities you did in college. Try to look for hospital internship too.

Congrats on UCLA!! just out of curiosity, do you not like ucr?

As one of my professors who attended Harvard once said, “it is better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.”

lol nice phrase ^ and ucr is one of the worst uc, but it would be less competitive than going to ucla.

I suggest you post your question on the PreMed Topics forum. While you will find relatively few people who have transferred from UCR to UCLA, you can get some general comments about these two schools and Med school.

If you feel like going to UCLA will hurt your GPA, stay at UCR unless you really hate it. I believe UCR has a pretty good pre-med program and it is less competitive than UCLA. You don’t want to hurt your GPA and diminish your chance of getting accepted to a med school.

UCR has a UCR-UCLA medical school program where you take the first two years at UCR then the remaining at UCLA. You would get your medical degree at UCLA. If you decide not to go to UCLA due to gpa reasons, try applying for that.
