UC's Personal Statement 2012 UC Berkeley

Hey everyone so here is my idea for my personal statements for UC Berkeley (Business Major):

Prompt #1
What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

For this essay I was going to talk about working my full-time job as a front-end manager in a grocery store. I would talk about my responsibilities and how it has taught me patience and great customer relations since I work at a lower end grocery store. Also, I would talk about profits. The thing that I am worried about is that I do have a full-time job (40-48 hours a week) and I go to school full-time (24 units this semester), and I really don’t have activities and volunteering).

Prompt #2
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

For this essay I was going to talk about meeting and singing in front of the most successful entrepreneur in today’s society, Simon Cowell. I would talk about how I learned that I need to set myself apart from the normal people and to make myself memorable, for that’s how it relates to me as a person. I would say I’m proud because I got to sing and meet a few of the best in the music industry, and got to bond with them until I was eventually cut in the top 30.

Overall those are my ideas, what do you think? The thing I’m not sure about is that how is this going to help the weak and down-trodden. My advisor asked me that, and told me incorporate something in there. Ideas? Thank you!!!
