UCSB data transfer limitation

ResNet’s connection to the Internet is currently a 350Mbps link which all residents share. Traffic through this link is subject to rate limiting based on time of day and total consumption per device. The following list provides a basic breakdown of our internet-bound network rate limiting:

1AM - 1PM: Unlimited Data Transfer
1PM - 1AM: Unlimited Download up to 768MB, all transfers beyond 768MB are rate-limited to 512kbps

Ah, thanks. +1

What about Xbox Live or Playstation network? I mostly play CoD4/MW2 online so will it lag a lot? P.S. My roommate has Xbox 360 and I have PS3.

Edit: one more thing; can I connect my PS3/phone’s wifi to “resnet-open” so I don’t have to log in through resnet?

Thanks!

It probably won’t lag.

If you connect to the internet anywhere on campus, you will need to log in, be it resnet or any other campus provided wifi.

That’s good :), but how would I use my console online if I have to log in to resnet? (I’m sure this has been thrown around a lot lol).

Resnet detects consoles AFAIK so it allows them to play without logging in. And also a 512kb/s connection is more than enough to play xbox live. With 512kb/s you can download a 23 minute TV show in 10 minutes (with 720p quality).

^kbs is not kilobytes/sec, it’s kilobits/sec.

Example: My current internet at home is 25 Mbs (Megabits, not bytes), so I realistically see a download rate of ~2.5 megabytes/sec, tops.

Unless you mean the download rate /is/ 512 kb/s (not the internet speed rate), then it should be fine for gaming. Gaming doesn’t use up a lot of data as streaming videos would.

I was wondering if anyone knows the DC++ server info?
