Ucsb decision

will my boyfriend get in? He has a 3.2, political science major, IGETC, and has a good amount of EC’s…has a job at the City of Davis, very heavily involved in our college newspaper (and was one of the ones that implemented the online version of the paper) and kinda was involved in high school newspaper

sooo I got accepted yesterday to Political Science, which was my 1st choice but I wanted Economics and Accounting instead (which i put my 2nd choice) and even though they said you can’t changed, I emailed them yesterday and my major changed today!!

so let me update my thing:
ACCEPTED!
Major:Economics and Accounting
GPA: 3.3
TAG: Yes
IGETC Finished: 1 class this spring I am taking now
Pre Reqs Finished- No
ECs: Study abroad in the fall, community service, lots in hs
Other: yay! I am sooo happy my major changed! I want to be an accountant and now I have a major that is that!

^ I don’t understand, don;t those two have completely different pre-req courses ? does that mean they expect you to take them all over ?

the mandatory prereqs for econ are Microecon, Macro Econ, Calc1 and Calc2. If you use econ to cover IGETC, then all you need is calculus and that’s not that hard to do.

no i have all those prereqs except for stats (which I might take in the summer)
but with polisci, I never took a polisci class nor a history class and still got in with that

@ hanucol

Your boyfriend should be fine, I was accepted to the same major with a 3.24 GPA

What happend for my application! Still “decision pending”!

GPA: 3.9
Major: Econ and Accounting (want to change to business econ)
TAG: NO
IGETC: Done by Spring
Preq: Completed

I have lots of activities, pretty much all of my friends got in except myself. And they have lower GPAs…My goodness!!!

Anyone in the same boat?

Did UCSB post admission decisions only once a day or keep updating the decision for applicants throught out a day?

Anyone who knows???

^

I’m in the same boat for Irvine. Pretty much same as your stuff, got in UCSB but Irvine still says pending. I’ve given up trying to figure out why, I’ve resigned myself to just waking up and logging in each site every single morning. Strangely enough, I haven’t even heard from SJSU yet, 3.9 and all.

Here’s mine:
Accepted
Major: Math related
GPA: 3.8
TAG: No
IGETC: No
Pre reqs: I think so
ECs: Nothing, actually. I do work though

@allen889 i’m in the exact same situation except mine is still pending for UCSB AND UCSD :frowning: i know a couple of people that have lower gpa’s than what i have (3.78/72 units) and barely any ecs and already got in for both schools! I’m starting to think maybe i’m just unlucky :(

Denied

Transferring from: UC Riverside
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.96
Pre-requisites: Would have all done by Spring
Essays: Good, I spent a lot of time on them
Extra-curriculars: pretty good

Thoughts: Crap. Although I’m going to have my pre-requisities done by Spring, I only have a couple done right now and they don’t have enough to judge me with. Phoo. I’m pretty positive that’s why I wasn’t admitted…they just didn’t feel comfortable with the amount of pre-requisites they saw at the time of application. If I’m correct in my assumption, then getting good grades in my classes this quarter would be grounds for an appeal. My grades should be in by Friday, and as long as they’re all B’s or better, I’ll send in an appeal.

Denied

Transferring from CC
Major: Computer Engineering (Pre)
GPA: 3.84
Pre-Reqs: still a bunch left

I know I didn’t get in from missing too many pre-reqs. Can’t say I didn’t expect it so I’m not too frustrated.

^ How many prereqs were you missing?

most of them, I’m only at Calc 2. Took me a year to realize I wanted to do an engineering major and then I had to take pre-cal before I could start calculus. I still figured I would try to apply when I would get 60 units though. Oh well that’s life, I figured I wouldn’t get in but if I had the chance to get out of CC early I had to take it and I still haven’t heard from UCSD yet which is more easy going about pre-reqs.

I can’t believe you didn’t get in arcadefire, if they expected you to have all/most of the pre-reqs done by fall how would any engineering major get in in 2 years? Good luck in your appeal.

Yeah, it’s definitely your prereqs. But that should be good news, because it means you’ll have a great shot next year. Plus, you already have your essays written and are familiar with the whole process.

denied you with a 3.96 arcadefire? ***?

I am literally shocked, I was accepted into a major that I am missing 4 out of 9 Pre reqs for @ UCSB.

Engineering and econ is two different animals in terms of pre-reqs

Yeah, engineering is a beast. I’m fairly confident that if I get good grades this quarter that an appeal would be successful. So let’s see if that happens…

UCEric: Well because I’m at a UC school and on the quarter system, I’ve still got 8 more classes to take before this year is over (and they’re all pre-requisites).

^ Yeah I get that… but I mean COME ON you have a 3.96 does UCSB have any reason to think you couldn’t complete the classes you said you were going to take. UCSB should be begging transfers with your stats to go to their school. I wouldn’t worry too much though, I would expect your appeal to be successful and I’m sure you will get into at least 1 school you applied to.
