Thank you UCeric. I have to admit, I’m annoyed and worried by this denial. Not to brag but I’m ranked #1 in my class here at UC Riverside in an extremely tough curriculum! I thought for sure I would be accepted to other UC schools. Argh. Oddly, I think I actually have a better shot at Berkeley than I do UCSB since I’m not applying to their college of engineering. I do hope my appeal is successful though and I can put this behind me. Thanks again, and good luck to you.

So, not like other UCs, UCSB donesn’t hold denies to the end?

Apparently not.

Can someone tell me if upper divison course count towards an AA? I went to UCSB for 1.5 years when I decided to take time off. A lot of time: 10 years! I recently enrolled at a JC. They told me if I took one class that I could graduate with my AA if I took one health class. I am taking it and now they are saying my upper division psych classes at UCSB do not count towards my AA even though they are the same classes that the JC offers. Now they say I have to take another class in the summer. Has anyone ever heard of this and why do my classes not apply? I was a sophmore when I took them.

ACCEPTED!
Major: Biz Econ Emphasis in Accounting
GPA : 3.93
Pre-Reqs: All
IGETC- Done

If you have stats like me and you didn’t get admitted, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to call UCSB office of admissions. Something is probably wrong… I talked to an admissions officer and she gave me news that almost killed me. Long story short I was told I only had 57 units completed when I definitely had 62, so I had to add one more class and she was able to make everything happen.

Good advice, Desetak- now you have me wondering… Did they get all ****y at you for calling? I am so scared to call any office for fear that they will say “Go away! Now we will never help you! Muahah!”

Ok, here’s my sitch: killer Poli Sci stats. Winter grades for a non-transferable math course (pre-req to IGETC math) came out after the update deadline but they suggest updating anyway. I just remembered that I updated on 3/11/2010. This is probably what slowed me down, huh? I’m reckoning so.

@kernlsanders - Absolutely not at all, they were extremely helpful… Call the admissions number and press 0 and you’ll be transfered to an operator. Be polite and just ask them to look over your transcripts, just in case. Just to make sure everything is fine. They’ll be more than happy to, well they should be. If not you should push it a little

EDIT: Without that non-transferable math course, how many transferable units do you have completed?

Up to Spring 2010: 54
Once Spring 2010 is completed: 72

2008 Fall: took 15, but only 9 UC Transferable
2009 Wint: 3
2009 Spring: 12
2009 Summer: 3 (Stupid budget cuts)
2009 Fall: 18 (straight As! yeah!)
2010 Wint: 5 non-transferable Math to prepare for Stats 1
2010 Spring: 18 again, because it’s definitely manageable. They normally don’t like to see this kind of course load unless you’ve done it before, so I’m good there.

You say you’ve already COMPLETED 62 by Fall 2009? Dayum. Or will you have 62 by the end of Spring 2010? I can’t exceed 80 and just take random classes to fill my spring (Veterans Administration rules- they only pay for classes that contribute toward a degree or transfer).

Ok well you look like you should be fine to tell you the truth, I would still give a call to the office so they could just look over that, they dont mind. Whats your gpa?

Well I had 46 done at Fall 09, I took another 16 units spring 10 BUT 5 of those units were considered duplicate (Business calculus and Calc 1, although they are similar and different, she told me max credit 1 course). So she said I should have been informed and told me to add a late start class if I could to get my units from 57 to 60, otherwise I would have been short. I got lucky to talk to her.

@Arcade Wow, I am really sorry to hear that they rejected you. I wish I could transfer my acceptance to you. That is a shame. Pre-requisites or not, it is ridiculous that they rejected you. I am hoping that UC Davis doesn’t do something similar to me… that will be a kick in the balls, since that is the one school that I both can get into and want to attend. It looks like you are going to get into UCLA, so I wouldn’t worry too much about this unfair rejection. Best of luck in the process, buddy.

Phew! Good thing you talked to her- yeah no duplicates here. Aren’t those loopholes the WORST??

GPA: not as high as I previously thought: 3.87… 54 units of As and 3 units of a C… that random C sure is a beeyotch. But I think it makes me human. If I get all As this semester, it’ll bring me up to a 3.92. Big whoop. Got all As in my major classes, so that’s all that matters, right?

desetak: Thanks for the advice of calling! I just spoke to an admissions counselor and she says she’s going to try to get my admissions decision changed to an acceptance! Excited, though it would be even more disappointing if she says she wasn’t able to at this point, haha.

arcadefire1027- I’m glad I could help, with your stats you should have been accepted. And it seriously those people at UCSB admissions are great. They’re very helpful… Congrats though, I’m sure she’ll be able to change it. Good luck!

kernlsanders- Yeah I think so, that should be just fine. But definitely as you saw with arcadefire it helps to call so dont shy away from that

desetak, can you help me?
What number should I call regarding the admission decision?
Because I have exactly the same stats as yours. and my decision is still pending.
My major is Econ and Accounting, and want to change to the Biz Econ.

Give me a hand, please, thank you!

What’s the point in calling if it’s pending? Just wait it out, I’d guess they’re probably just not releasing all acceptances at the same time.

I have bunch of friends were already got in, they even have lower GPAs etc…

Do you think they will release the decisions with any kinds sequences???

It would be safer to switch once you’re admitted. Honestly the upper division requirements are so similar between the two, you can switch it anytime.

@Allen889
For most of the UCs there doesn’t seem to be any direct correlation with GPA and when you get admitted. There may be some correlation with which programs they review first though…

I would say, the biz econ and econ accounting are totally different, because the econ accounting major you have to take 5 more upper division accounting classes, which are really hard. I am scaring…

And I have heard of lots of the econ and accounting got in already…worring…

But thanks for your tip

Oh that explains it, because I’m doing biz econ with emphasis in accounting which means I’ll have to take those 5 accounting courses anyways.

Reference guys, you should have done some research on the standing of Business Econ and Econ and Accounting at UCSB. Business Econ will NO LONGER be a major at UCSB and Economics and Accounting will be replacing it.

EDIT: Arcadefire I called because I didn’t receive acceptance, if I never called I would have just seen decision pending and thought everything was ok. But because I called they were able to see what was wrong before someone rejected me… thats the reason for calling to ensure you did everything right
