You may want to contact your school and ask them if they sent in a Gpa verification for cal grant. Sometimes you have to do it yourself which could cause this problem
@uchopeful414 Yeah I gave it to my school long before the deadline to submit it. My school processes the Cal Grant for us. Really hoping they didn’t F something up, because now it’s too late to fix anything right?

Create an account. This is the cal grant website and should tel you if there’s anything wrong. If you don’t have a school specified there and UCSB is your choice, then put it in there. But first create an account and see what’s up
@uchopeful414 Thanks for your help man. It says my application status is still pending. Is that normal to take this long to disburse the Cal Grant? Did you receive a reward from them yet?
I have yet to receive one from them yet. It could take some time but they have until like September to get them filed and completed. Even if you accept your award, UCSB will reevaluate your award and add it on. Cal grants are a hefty grant. Usually all of your tuition
Under your “college of attendance”, does it list your current school or some random school you applied too. Because for me it lists a school I applied too and not the one I’m currently attending for some reason…
Yeah it kind of automatically defaults to whatever one it feels like. But once you get the award you can change it to the school you want.
But as it says, check in weekly to see if anything changes. I got awarded one last year but I didn’t transfer. So they said I already am eligible I just have to wait for it to get processed
Sweet, I appreciate your help @uchopeful414
@uchopeful414 Just curious, was your award generous last year?
Sí, it was 12,445
@uchopeful414 I took precalc two years ago and I’m taking business/applied calc now. Personally I think precalc should be taken before business calc. The students in my class without a strong algebra background all dropped out.
I’ve been hearing that there’s no real algebra application in business calc? And that it has nothing to do with pre cal, that’s why it’s not a pre req for it
I guess it depends on where and how it’s taught. The book we’re using is Applied Calculus 5th edition. If you’re not familiar with how to manipulate or simplify equations, what various functions look like, or what logarithms are I don’t see how you’d get through it. But that’s just in my limited experience.
Also the first chapter in our book was nothing but a precalc and trig refresher. Idk how it’s taught in other schools but calc having nothing to do with precalc seems like an odd statement.
Yeah my friend who goes to UCR said there’s no use of pre cal in business calculus. And she said it’s like the easiest concepts of calculus with decay and exponential growth and all dat. So idk maybe it just depends
@uchopeful414 Taking it right now The actual calculus is easy but the algebra is where people get messed up.
@nothingpersnal would you said pre cal or business cal is easier ?
Cuz I was taking a gander at pre cal and it looks a little complex .-. I can handle like basic algebra up until log and conic sections and all those stupid things. I struggled but I understood somewhat.
Right, like in certain equations taking a derivative and then a second derivative, then factoring it to find the zeroes - all that could be basically impossible if your algebra sucks. Understanding local minimums and maximums, inflection points, and reading graphs is child’s play.
Another thing that my class is pretty heavy on is word problems where you have to write the equations for the functions and solve them. If you’re not comfortable with that I’d take pre calc.
Sounds confusing. Idk I’m just torn between the two and really don’t want to get myself into trouble. I should’ve taken it in community college .-.
You can get away with bus calc without pre calc. Myself and most of the people in my class came straight from statistics, which ironically is a higher math class. @uchopeful414
I took stats and got an A! I’m feeling like I should take business calc since you guys say algebra is needed. I don’t know trig if that means anything
