UCSB Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Got in today

Major: Computer Engineering
GPA: 3.89
IGETC: Completed by spring
Pre-req: Yes
TAG: TAP for UCLA, Honors to Honors for Irvine
Personal Statements: Fairly good, 8-9/10
Applied: UCLA, Cal, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, GaTech
Admitted: UCI(Honors to Honors) UCSB
Denied: None so far

Admitted!

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.4
IGETC: Completed
Pre-reqs: Done
Admitted: UCSC, UCSB, CPP, SJSU

@chaseguy750 I was at first but got back in contact with my econ prof from last year and she gave me a book that’s like the one used and more stuff to help. I encourage you do the same if you were on real good terms with them.

It’s a 72% needed I hear. If I can’t get that in the amount of tries they allow then what business do I have in this major in the first place?

@chaseguy750 I had concerns when I read that econ 10a was curved because that lends itself to a dog eat dog strategy and encourages cheating. The class is no longer curved, and if you don’t get a B you have two more chances to take the final and pull up your grade. So no, I’m not particularly worried about the class.

@yakattak @chaseguy750 You guys taking it in the summer as well? I’m planning on it so am starting to self teach the class rn.

@nothingpersnal if I choose ucsb I want to!

I got in
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.8
IGETC: Completed
Pre-reqs: Done
Applied: Slo, Pamona, csulb, sdsu, UCI, UCSB,UCSD, UCB
Admitted: Pamona, csulb, UCSB
Denied: SLO, SDSU

So happy I got in. I was getting worried when SLO and SDSU denied me. Waiting on what Berkeley has to say before I make my decision.

I see that a lot of engineers are getting accepted at this time.

Congratulations to all who has been admitted!
My decision is still pending

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.73 (3.75 after winter quarter)
IGETC: no
Pre-Reqs: All required/recommended done by spring except for strength of materials (recommended)
Applied: SLO, UCSD, UCI(tag), UCSB, UCLA, UCB, UCD, GA Tech
Denied: SLO
Accepted: none
ECs: A few dozen volunteer hours at the local museum. Other than that - nothing else really…

I’m really nervous right now. It’s less than 4 weeks till UCs finalize decisions and I haven’t heard back anywhere; anyways, I’ll remain hopeful.

Good luck everyone!

@nothingpersnal I’m planning on taking it in the summer. Where did you get the material to start teaching yourself?

@ItsAPotato you should be able to get in. The one that were denied didn’t have certain classes like statics and dynamics or programming. If you finished all your required and recommended you should be able to get in like me. The other schools will probably release decisions in the next few weeks.

Accepted!

Major: Communication
GPA: 3.21
IGETC: completed
Prereqs:all done
Tag: yes
Applied: UCD,UCSB,UCI,UCSD,UCSC,SJSU,SDSU
Admitted:UCSB,SJSU
Rejected: SDSU

Anyone get in for Global Studies?

Still pending here for Mech Eng. I completed all required classes except for Strengths, my school does not offer it. GPA is 3.4, extracurricular, internship.

Is there a facebook group or somewhere where we can connect with fall 2016 transfer students to break the ice/search for roommates?

@yakattak Spoke with my econ prof from my cc that adores me. She gave me a intermediate micro textbook to help and is asking the publisher for an extra copy of the intermediate micro with calculus book (apparently a super popular textbook for the course so she thinks it will be the most relevant) Just started reading the textbook page by page so far. Lots of carryover from intro to micro.

Someone should make a group. I will do it if i can get peoples emails to add to the group

@hdoan24 I got an email from UCSB telling me about an app for transfers. Here it is:

"Welcome, Transfers! We’re so excited that you’re here!
Greetings, Future Gauchos!

Welcome to UCSB’s official Facebook app! Here, you can meet new friends (and potential roommates!), view Instagram photos of our beautiful campus, ask questions of Staff and currently enrolled students, join various Communities of interest, and set Meetups (maybe make plans to hang out at a future Orientation session)!

We’re proud of your accomplishments and we want to share some of ours! Did you know that in 2013, UCSB was ranked No. 2 in the world for its contributions to the sciences? That U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 “Best Colleges” guide ranked UCSB No. 8 among all public universities? That we have six Nobel Laureates on faculty? That UCSB is among the “greenest” of campuses, with the largest portfolio of LEED-certified buildings in the UC system? That we’re one of only 62 research schools in the prestigious Association of American Universities? Learn more at http://www.ucsb.edu/pop.

FutureGauchos, we wish you a successful Spring!"

Here is the link to the app they were talking about. I haven’t used it myself since I don’t plan on attending UCSB.

Damn I didn’t know how long that link was until I pasted it!

I just realized that everyone who has posted on this thread and has been accepted has finished all their prereqs & IGETC prior to spring. Was that always a thing since they get priority or is it still just random?

@by3000 I won’t be done with pre reqs or IGETC until this semester is over and I got accepted.

Hi @by3000 I got accepted at the first day but I did not finish the prereqs. I will only finish IGETC and still miss 2 prereqs after spring. So I guess it does not depend on this. It may be based on different majors or GPA.
