UCSB Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@busiibeee Yes I think it will be harder. there is limited resources in summer quarter so no CLAS. It’s not curved anymore apparently which is great though. Already got in contact with my micro professor from last year who is hooking me up with a similar textbook so I can get started early.

Seriously colleges need to send them at least a little quicker because we as students need to decide where we are going to attend :((

@HeyKimm I received mine the first day.

If you have a TAG, you will be accepted.

GPA: 3.51
Major: Comm

Good luck, let me know when you get in!

economics, still pending. its killing me.

Got rejected, checked today.
Major: Mechanical Engineering
UC GPA: 3.75
IGETC: completed
Prereq’s: Everything will be done this semester, besides dynamics.
It’s looking bleak

@RyanOMalley People that did TAG have been rejected in this admissions cycle

@MrAT95 wow…I’m really surprised you got rejected, I wonder why :frowning:

This is driving me crazy. I check it several times a day to just see “decision pending” :frowning:

I got an email saying I was accepted into EOP. Did anyone else get into it? I was looking at their website, but I still don’t really know what the advantages are but having additional counseling?

OMG! I got accepted!!

Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.60
Prerequisites: to be completed by the end of Spring
IGETC: to be completed by the end of Spring
TAG: No

I was also accepted to CSULB, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal Poly SLO. I am still waiting for UCLA, UCI, and UCSD.

Accepted!

Major: chemical engineering
GPA: 4.0
Prerequisites: all except for modern physics and MATLAB
IGETC: nope
TAG: no
EC: board member of 2 clubs, student athlete, caltech internship

Got into UCI too with regents
Waiting for UCSD, UCLA and UC Berkeley!

I got the EOP email too. I’m not really sure what it is but for some schools it means that you’ll get early registrations?? I just thought the EOP email was to remind us about the event on Saturday. It seems generic?

@tigerbuns

It did seem a bit generic. I reread it and noticed that it said “You are receiving this email because you either expressed interest on your UC application, or you have met eligibility for the Educational Opportunity Program (also known as EOP).” Maybe there’s an additional application we have to fill out? Or maybe we have to SIR first before we get into the program?

@pugzandhugz

I don’t think we would get early registration, but I did find this!

Hey guys, I just heard that for the 2016-2017 school year transfers will NOT be able to live in the residence halls. This is due to an expected increase in the number of freshmen this year. However, transfers will be guaranteed a spot in one of the UCSB owned apartments. I wanted to give a heads up to those who have already been accepted!

@by3000 Yeah, I cant really put my finger on why I would be denied. Im hoping for either Irvine, SD, or berkeley acceptance. My friend had a 3.9 and she was also rejected yesterday for industrial engineering.

A classmate had told me that some UCs deny students knowing they will be excepted elsewhere? Not sure how credible or true this is.

@aedie1 I think those rejected with TAG didn’t fulfill all requirements or had their tag rejected. It is supposed to be a “guarantee” granted you fulfill all requirements

@ChemE4life do you think you’re gonna accept it?? We could be ChemE buddies  I’m waiting for SD and LA.

@MrAT95 yeah, I actually have heard that too! Rumor has it that if a school thinks you’re more qualified for a different UC school (I’m guessing schools such as Cal or SD, etc) then they’d reject you knowing that you’d get accepted into another institution! Good luck! Your GPA is stellar, so you shouldn’t have a problem with getting accepted anywhere else!

Are any Econ or Econ/Accounting majors worried about not getting a B in Econ 10A? It seems pretty stressful and idk if it is worth the risk.

I don’t see any reason as to why UCs would utilize yield-protection (denying overqualified applicants) for transfer students. We have very little impact on the statistics used in rankings (hence the reason there are far more scholarships available to freshmen). I think what is more likely is some UCs having certain preferences, whether it be in regard to prerequisites, ECs, major courses, etc. To what extent and in what way, I could not say. I’m purely speculating, so take this with ten shakers of salt.

In regard to engineering, results could not vary any more. If you examine engineering results from threads in the past, you will find acceptances, rejections, and waitlists scattered across the UC spectrum with little correlation. You just never know with impacted majors such as engineering.
