UCSB Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@DMoney9 that’s really bizarre? The school emailed you back to say that was the reason? I wouldn’t go off what a counselor said because they’re not on the admissions committee… aren’t pre-reqs supposed to be done at latest by spring prior to entry? I know some schools will even give you an extension to complete a course in the summer if they really want you.

@DMoney9 but definitely appeal!!! You don’t lose anything by appealing!!! Good luck!

@Dmoney9 I think the TAG was very specific about having to finish the Math and English courses in the in the fall before Transfer. I have heard though many people appealed after passing it and were able to get it. Good luck man

Thank you! I didn’t TAG, so since I didn’t it was stated that we are still eligible to finish math by spring. I deff think its because I extended the deadline of the course to be finished by spring, when it originally said fall, when I updated my UC app. I will appeal and post how that goes for anyone interested…
Good luck to everyone and congrats to everyone who has heard back!

UCSB or UCSD and why?

@lexluther96 UCSD OF COURSE if you’re asking for the same major. What the heck though? did you really have to ask that lmao it’s basically asking silver or gold? not pizza or hamburger. UCSD is ranked like 15 in the world…

4th public school in the nation

i mean ucsb is obviously gonna be more fun with a lot more social/cool/know-how-to-party people but that’s not why you’re spending 35k a year to get a degree right? you go for powerful future/success

Really? It’s ranked on US news as tied with UCSB and UCD I believe. They’re all 44th. If they’re all the same, SB’s campus is a lot prettier and the social scene is better. What source tells you that SD is better academically? @JustgotintoUCSB

For me personally UCSB>UCSD. But I want to go into accounting. I also like the Santa Barbara area and community a lot more.

As for UCD. It always seemed kind of blah for me. Landlocked not really close to anything, no thanks

Depends on major-- UCSB has a better history department than SD and much better lifestyle, so I’d just as well go there. If you’re a STEM major than obvs UCSD is better

Poli sci/human rights for pre-law. What do you guys think?

@lexluther96 Outside of LA and Berk, people don’t really care what UC you go to outside of California. But in California, UCSD is still considered the better university. they’ve has fallen recently in us news national rankings due to non academic factors, mainly falling 4 year graduation rates.

But academically, it is still a notch above the middle three: UCSB, UCI, and UCD. You can look at selectivity like average SAT scores, or academic rankings such as US News global rankings, ARWU, Times, QS, or any other one tbh. In those UCSD is much closer to UCLA, and much higher than the rest of the UCs. So academically, UCSD is definitely better.

I don’t know too much about your specific major, and tbh theres not too much of a difference, so go wherever you think you’ll be happier. The environments at the 2 schools could not be more different, ucsd is a very studious, serious place and stem majors dominate. ucsb is the definition of a party school, but still academically strong.

@lexluther96 For pre-law, I would definitely say UCB. For science, UCSD. It really depends on your major rather than statistics alone. All around UCSD is the better school, but it really depends on what you’re going there for. The ranking I read was like UCB, UCLA (although I think it’s first, my opinion  ), UCSD, [UCD, UCSB, UCI] those three are all somewhat tied, UCSC, UCR, UCM.

@UCLAorUCBTRNSFR From my experience, out of California, everyone thinks UCD is the best school after UCLA. For example, my bf is from NY and when I told him I got into UCSD, he said cool but UCD is way better. I was like lolllllk

I think I’ll go to UCSD over UCSB for the academics.

@lexluther96 have you visited either school yet? SB is beautiful. Visiting SD this weekend

@phil067 I used to live in San Diego so I’ve seen UCSD, but I haven’t visited SB. I’m not in love with the SD campus tbh. The SB campus pictures make it look nice. Tell me what you think of SD! It’s been a while for me
