UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Thread (Including TAG)

@quaivoltaire my original response is getting flagged for no reason. basically, thanks for your input (:

from the UCSB admissions page
“Decisions for all freshman applicants and some transfer applicants are available now on the Application Status portal. Remaining transfer decisions will be released on April 2, April 16 and then on a rolling basis until May 1.”
at this point, I am losing hope that we will actually hear again until April 2nd

I’m just a little confused as to why they made Mar 20 a huge deal if everyone wasn’t going to find out on that day. They made multiple posts about checking on the 20th via Instagram, and their portal even said they were down to update everyone’s portals for admission decisions. Then, they only released some. Maybe all of that was meant for freshman students? Cause I believe all freshmen have gotten their responses, so I assume that message was only meant for them. Regardless, this makes me think that either they just want to pace them out, or that perhaps they are waiting for admitted transfers to submit SIRs, and then they can see who else they can accept?

I know I am unnecessarily concerned over this, I just really wanted to get in to SB (first choice). Feel free to call me crazy, since I know that I am haha.

Can any one that’s non-CCC transfer (UC, CSU, private 4-year…) let us know when your accepted? … Or are we going to be the last to know?

@ihatewaiting00 financial aid packages among the UC’s are very similar

I submitted my app about 3 weeks before the due date, probably why I got first wave

my friend at my cc just heard back as a non-tag, still no word for me. Lol this is cruel. I guess this also means that they were wrong about next decisions only coming out on the 2nd and 18th.

@chocstraw congrats on your acceptance! i submitted my app just hours before it was due & got accepted yesterday. i really don’t think there is a certain pattern behind admissions & it is all done at random

I don’t get it, Like is the first applications that are submitted the last ones to be checked? How do they applications by order?

@SofiSana probably the last to know since we get least priority… maybe it’s a good thing since by the time the last batch is released they’ll have a rough idea of how many people will enroll and how many won’t  I’m just guessing

I was hoping we wouldn’t be the ultimate last but its reasonable :(( incase any non-CCC do get their decision soon PLEASE keep us posted

Have any anthropology majors heard back from admissions? I have a 3.82 TAG agreement and my decision still says pending.

I just got off the phone with ucsb admissions, and I have some good news! I asked if there was a reason/order for some applicants hearing back on the 20th and others having to wait til the 2nd and 16th. They said that it is completely random and released that way because they review applications by batches. Also they said the first batch of applications who heard back was very small and the majority of applicants havnt heard back yet, so the 2nd and 16th is when most us will hear back. For the TAG applicants, we are also reviewed with the regular aplications, so unlike Irvine we don’t hear back earlier.

@tamlove I just changed my major from Pysch to Anthro because of the change of programs this upcoming year but I haven’t heard back either.
Still pending! but it looks like @Skepta just answered our question! Thank you so much!

Here’s a little background of my application. I am an anthropology (BA) major with a 3.56 transferable gpa. I am TAP certified. I have decent EC’s but what stands out about my application in my opinion are my personal statements. I talked about having a stutter when i was younger and overcoming it, landing a role on a hit TV show called The Walking dead and using that money to help my mother with expenses, and the death of my father. I had a semester of all W’s due to taking a medical withdrawal because of the passing of my father from brain cancer. (I talked about that in my personal statements) I also had two incomplete’s due to this, (one for my major). However, I completed the courses and received an A in both of them. When I was filling out my application in the fall, I listed the two courses as an “incomplete” and put in the additional comments section that I made up the two courses and will be receiving an “A” in both classes by spring. (I was just waiting for the grade to be submitted by my professors). So during the transfer academic update I listed in the additional comments that both Incomplete’s were completed with a grade of an A. I do

Going into the application process, I was confident that I would get into at least one school. I was only worried about not getting into my #1 school, UCLA. But even then i thought, i had a slight chance because im TAP certified with an alternative major of gender studies. I received my first admissions from UCSB and I was rejected. I’m very shocked because Santa Barbara was honestly my safety school/least competitive school to get into in my opinion. I checked the 2017 admitted statistics for UCSB and the average GPA range admitted was 3.1 - 3.7 with a 70 percent admit rate. I’ve heard that UCSB is very strict on applicants finishing their math before the spring semester. Im currently taking statistics and am in progress, so perhaps thats a big factor in not getting in.

Now that I received my first letter and was rejected to UCSB, that makes me 0/1. Im starting to think to myself that if i didn’t get into my safety school that i may not end up getting admitted anywhere at all. Can you guys chance me? Do i have any shot at getting into UCI, UCSD, let alone UCLA as my alternative major? Everything seems like a long shot now and im pretty sad. The good news is at least now i have no expectations of getting in anywhere, so i wont be as disappointed

UPDATE: I just called UCSB admissions and they said that the only reason I didn’t get in was because my statistics class was in progress. This gives me some hope because I know UCSB is very strict on completing math prerequisite before the spring, hopefully I get in somewhere!

@Flurkz Hey, Anthropology major here too! I don’t think you should lose hope. You know why? I know someone who got rejected from UCSB and ended up getting into UCLA and UCB. It’s good that you know why UCSB rejected you, and that was because of your In-progress statistics. Other schools may be more lenient about taking a required math course in your last semester of your current school. So I wouldn’t lost hope. I’m sure AT LEAST 1 of the other UC’s will accept you. Additionally, Anthropology is usually not an impacted major. You should look up the UC statistics and see their acceptance rate for Anthro majors. (FYI: UCLA’s Anthropology BA acceptance rate is over a 50%).

@shagunbali thank you so much for giving me hope. That’s reassuring to hear.
