UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Thread (Including TAG)

Current UCSB undergrad here.

Send any questions my way  I’d be more than happy to answer anything!

Hi. I was wondering if our transcript should include Spring quarter or not? Cause it says “by July 15”, I am not quite sure. Besides, when can we start registering courses after SIRing? In May or what? Thank you!

@jobsoutofcollege

@hailey5799 I’m not sure but but if log into your portal and click major change it’ll take you to a page of majors you are able to switch into.

@qthatneedsana hi! I’m looking at housing options and I’m not sure what the best choice would be… I definitely want a 1 bedroom to share with 1 other student.

I put a listing up on the FB app for a roommate, I’m worried though I’m making a mistake choosing UCSB over Davis, and I’m waitlisted for UCSD so I’m waiting for that too.

@blueem hey! what options are you eyeing? university housing/dorms or iv?

@kbach24 I’m a comm major too and I tagged and got waitlisted with 3.7 gpa

I’m officially a gaucho!!!

@hailey5799 why do you think you made a mistake?

Bc Davis has more opportunities for my major and its law school is nearby and ranked pretty high nationally but I want to be on the beach and I like the UCSB campus more.

I didn’t think I’d complete IGETC, so I put on my application that I wouldn’t complete it or earn any AA degrees. It turns out that I accidentally did complete the IGETC and will be earning an AA degree in Physics and an AA degree in Math. I’m worried that this will cause my application to be rescinded due to not mentioning it on my application? I will call them on Monday, but this will be a sleepless weekend. Has anyone had or seen a similar situation?

@qthatneedsana well so far I’ve looked at the undergrad apartments (housing). Which would be the best if I only want to share a room with one other person?

Also how does the rent work? Do they add it to My tuition?

@blueem My friend goes to UCSB, junior this year, and she said university housing is really nice, she still rooms with her roommate from freshman year, they got along well though, but yeah. IDk about rent, I would call admissions on monday.

@Batmen that’s what appeals are for pretty much

Hey guys so I’m calling monday to figure out payment plans for housing rent but in the meantime does anyone know how it works? So for example I looked at the 1 bedroom El Dorado apartment which is 766/month. Is that 766 per person? Is it monthly and are there any payment plans?

yes 766 per person and it would be 766 for each month but you pay it quarterly along with tuition @blueem

@SofiSana Hi, I’m not sure I understand. What do you mean pay it quarterly along with tuition?

I go to santa barbara cc and I live in Isla Vista so i can help you guys out with housing if you want. My closest friend goes to UCSB. I live in IV and it’s a bit more social and wild than university housing. If you live in an apartment in IV on the 65 or 66 blocks (any apartment address starting w those numbers) you’re SUPER close to campus and to downtown IV where all the food is, and to DP where all the parties are.
University housing is a great option for a lot of people because it’s generally cheaper than living in IV, it has pretty nice facilities, you don’t have to deal with crooked landlords and it’s a bit more mellow. It’s also a good way to make new friends, cuz you have a little bit more of a “dorm” experience but if you could find some people to live in a house with in IV you would also make a lot of friends. If you live in any university housing, it’s included/added on in your tuition which just means you don’t have to pay rent every month but rather pay quarterly through the same system you pay tuition which I think is BARC.
Honestly at this point 90+% of the apartments(and all of the good ones) are already leased for the next school year, they usually fill up around march, so university housing may be the best option
