@bolxons @Crismo23 Cool, I think you are both in the same exact boat as me. Got into anthro & geography at Cal Poly but still waiting for UCSB. Deadline for Cal poly is 5/1 so I might just say screw SB if they take too long

@bolxons Cal Poly SLO is definitely the best CSU, I’d say it’s on par with an average UC

@bolxons @pandaman115 I know a lot of students who ended up at UC Berkeley but preferred Cal Poly SLO (and probably would have gone there if they had gotten in). It’s known for being much more hands-on than the UCs. It’s also much harder to get accepted as a transfer there.
@cloud7 That’s really interesting! I have seen quite a few instances where Cal states were recommended to anthro majors for undergrad over the UCs. It’s a shame that a lot of people can’t see past the prestige factor of certain schools and sometimes pass up the places where they might thrive the most.

What are the most popular majors at Ucsb? and is it a good school for comm? does anyone have any stats and facts lol. I applied last minute and got in but I don’t know much about the school or if its in a high ranking like ucla or usc, thankssss
@lolallama23 From what I understand it’s quite a high ranking seems like students do care about grades and high performance though it has that party school reputation. I wouldn’t say it’s as high up as UCLA or USC but I hear their communications major is actually really good! Tbh I’d just browse their website or check with actual students for more specific information! Tour if you can, of course!
@pandaman115 Go watch some youtube videos of students complaining about Berkeley. You can find a few. It’ll most likely make you feel better.

@vrios95 i actually only applied to ucsb for the college of creative studies, but i applied as an english major and creative writing as my alt (still have to submit my portfolio). i was wondering if any eng major is also interested in creative writing? or thinking of double majoring?

Is anyone else here concerned about the school’s party reputation? If I don’t get into UCSD, this is the school I’ll SIR to. However, I’m put off by the reputation as a party school…I know a quality education is there, but I don’t want all of the disturbances of drunk, rambunctious teens… (I’m 27). And I don’t want to be asked forever onward about the parties at UCSB after getting a degree.
It sounds like living around the campus, it’s impossible to get away from it.

@kristinpete It’s so bizarre that UCSB is one of the top public universities in the country, but it still has the reputation for being a “party school”. While there’s definitely a party culture, the academics are really strong too; I hope the reputation shifts more in the near future!
