Does UCSB do a questionnaire to figure out who your roommates will be?? I get really bad panic attacks in dirty/messy surroundings and the idea of having a slob roommate stresses me out
Tip re roommate questionnaires:
There are usually three options to each question:
The middle option is exactly that. In the middle. They will often use those to fill out open spaces in areas 1 and 3. So two roomies who are partiers need a third - they’ll grab from middle if need be. The super quiet one needs a match? They’ll grab from middle if need be.
I found that out after I got put with a 24/7 raver. They use the middle as the tie breakers. If I were doing again I would probably pick some quieter options. I was middle straight down the line.

@sleepypolarbear ugh i do not trust the random system. i go to nyu rn and my freshman year, i got paired literally with the worst roommate ever (maybe not the worst worst but pretty effing bad!!!). so thats why i made a group so we kind find people we vibe with and what not! The group is called “UCSB Fall 2019 Transfer Roommate Finder (Enrolled)”. Join if you want to!
I don’t know if anyone knows the answer to this but wherever I go to school I plan on sharing a room with my significant other who still has another year at cc. (if i go to ucsb he’ll be going to sbcc.) is it possible for him to live in the guaranteed student housing off campus apartments with me or would he have to be a student?
also does anyone have insight about the different housing options? whats quieter? what’s nicer? is it better to go with one of the schools options listed on their website or find something independently? etc.
Off-campus apartments are still UCSB housing so he would have to be a student.
@queen_ofthenorth If you guys want to live together you’ll have to do off campus housing. That’s what me and my boyfriend are doing, except I’m going to Davis.
@tinedancer Cool thanks. I’m going back and forth between Davis and SB; I was admitted to both along with a couple others that I’m not really interested in as much so. I heard housing is cheaper in Davis so that’s definitely a pro, but I haven’t been to Davis yet to check it out.
@queen_ofthenorth Housing in Sacramento is really cheap, about 15miles or so east of Davis if you don’t mind a little bit of a drive to campus. SB will probably be more expensive but it’s a beautiful area right on the beach so that’s expected. Depends on what kind of vibe you like I think as far as the campus goes, trees at Davis or beach at SB!
