UCSB Reception Invite

Does receiving this letter mean i was accepted for my first choice major? My first choice was pre biology in the college of letters and sciences and my second was anthropology in the college of letters of sciences as well.
-Thanks!

2 things worth pointing out.

First, pre-bio is in Letters and Science and that college does not consider major in admission. So once they decided to accept you then your intended major is 100% guaranteed to be listed as pre-bio.

Second, pre-anything does not mean you are accepted into a major. You’ll need to to complete all the prereqs with a specified gpa (for bio see https://undergrad.biology.ucsb.edu/majors/pre-major) and then apply to get into the major. You could have listed anything in L&S as your major, then once you arrived at UCSB started taking the bio prereqs; people do this all the time. The lower division required classes are needed for many majors and anyone can sign up for them. Then in the spring after taking 2 quarter of chem you would fill out the form to be listed as pre-bio.

From the UCSB FAQ on the Chancellor’s Reception:

What is the purpose of the UCSB Chancellor’s Receptions?

The receptions provide you and your family with the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty, staff and alumni who will introduce you to opportunities on campus. Our goal is to inform you about the excellent opportunities for academic, personal and professional growth at UCSB so that you can make an informed college choice.

Does this mean I have been admitted? Who was invited to the reception?

Your invitation does not indicate that you have been admitted. However, invitations were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in select regions.

If you haven’t gotten a letter yet, don’t lose hope!

I just received mine today, eight days after the earliest to my knowledge. And I live in CA too, so I suspect the delay wasn’t in the delivery. Until now I was very dejected in considering how bad my essays must have been if my 1580 (and other numerical stats) couldn’t carry me into the top 15%.

But now fingers crossed for CCS admission!

I’m not sure if anyone answered this question already, but is every invite sent by mail or do some get it via email as well?

Does anyone know if admission is still possible if you don’t recieve this invite?

@calgra: The Chancellor’s reception invite is for only a select few applicants. The majority of applicants will not get the invite and still be accepted.

Anyone know? Would transfer students get invites - if they were going to - at this point, or at a later point?

@“jesse’sgirl”
UCSB does not have offer a Chancellor’s reception for transfers and also does not offer Regents for transfers.

Kid#2 got UCSB regents letter today in the mail ($6Kyear/$24Kmax). The original reception letter was about 10 days ago.

Forgot to mention we are in bay area northern California, that may have some bearing on notification of regents via mail.

What’s a Regent’s Letter?

@Ktv1969 Look up a couple of posts above yours. Aggies1989 breaks down the totals awarded in a Regent’s scholarship, notified via a letter.

Got UCSB surface mail of admission and regents award letter ($6Kyear/$24Kmax). The original reception letter was about 10 days ago. Portal status still shows no change and says decision to be posted “beginning on March 17”.

@mwt2020 Congratulation!!

Is The regents letter visible via informed delivery usps?

@iamkel33 It was in a large white envelope, and the image wasn’t visible on our usps informed delivery.

Are Regents awarded OOS or is it only in state applicants?

@rooooooooo According to the info on https://www.finaid.ucsb.edu/scholarships/regents-scholarship, “All freshmen admitted…are considered…”

@Gumbymom I’m sorry if you have answered this elsewhere, but do you know if the top 15 % of applicants receive the Chancellor’s invite or the top 15% of admitted students? Thank you!
