@2022Fall: First of all, no where is it actually documented that the top 15% of admitted students are invited to the Chancellor’s reception. I believe it was mentioned by a student that attended the reception last year so this number could change. Also logic dictates that it would the top 15% of admitted students that get the invite vs applicants since in all but one case that I have heard of in the past 6 years, Chancellor reception invitees are told they have been accepted.
The “top” students that get the invite are just not top students academically like Regents. Regents is usually the top 1-2% of academic admits while Chancellor reception invitees can be exceptional in other areas such as community service, overcoming adversity, unique personal insight essays and special talents.
Same here. My daughter got a letter inviting her to the chancellors reception and a certificate naming her a Regents scholar with $24,000 Merit award spread over four years. She did not get nominated for a regent scholarship at Berkeley or UCLA
I haven’t received anything saying it is officially cancelled but I’m thinking it will be cancelled because UCSB just cancelled classes and went to online classes beginning tomorrow through the end of April. With that new news I’m thinking they won’t assemble hundreds of students in a hotel conference room setting. Too bad. I was looking forward to it.
