So I am a third year SBCC student. I have more than enough classes to fulfill the requirements so here is the twist. Over Summer I took COMM 101 online and failed it due to personal reasons. I can’t retake it until Spring but my GPA will be above a 3.2 by the end of this Fall and on the requirements page it says this:
The following GPA requirements apply for the College of Letters and Science TAG. Applicants must:
Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC transferable course work by the end of fall 2011;
Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in all UC transferable course work in fall 2011 term;
Maintain a minimum overall 3.20 GPA through the end of spring 2012;
Earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in all UC transferable course work in spring 2012 term.

So Ill have a 3.2 for all my work even including the F
My gpa will be a 4.0 for this Fall term
I will maintain my GPA and keep it all above a 2.0 in the courses
Nowhere does it say you can’t have a failed class as long as my gpa and my course work for fall and spring doesnt dip below a 2.0 I should still be good right?

As long as your overall gpa is 3.2 or higher then you’ll be fine.

I am applying as a COMM major (sounds ridiculous seeing that i failed 101 but theres a good reason for that fluke) so Im just worried that since it is a prep class i will have problems but it does not say anywhere that prep classes need be completed by application time so I should be fine right?

you’ll be fine. you are right, it doesn’t speak on failed courses.

and examining the TAG matrix, you can have a 3.0 or a 2.8, 2.7, 2.6 at the time of submitting your TAG, its just you need to have a 3.2 but the end of Fall 2012. For example on that matrix, Irvine required you to have a 3.2 by the end of Summer 2011.

The probability of bringing it up to a 3.2 if you are at 2.5 are slim but it doesn’t say you need a 3.2 by the time of TAG submittal, like Irvine does in the matrix. When you get the TAG back with the provisions, i am sure it will thoroughly emphasize that you will need a 3.2 but the end of Fall 2012.

Correct me if i am wrong people.

I think you nailed it. Seems like it will all work out as long as I nail this semester I should be good. Thanks guys!
