UCSC a joke for Engineering.

I am seriously having double thoughts on attending UCSC. Many people have told me as an undergraduate I should go to Cal Poly Pomona rather than UCSC for Electrical Engineering.

If I do go to Cal Poly Pomona I would probably be transferring. So what do you guys think? Is it hard to get courses at Cal Poly Pomona?

Which would be the better option in terms of price and education?

I live in the LA and would love the "college experience" too

Your title is rather misleading. UCSC is not by any means a joke for Engineering. It may not be as strong as other colleges in certain departments, but that doesn't make it a joke.

It depends on what you want to do with EE, really. If you want to be on the cutting edge of things, that is moreso UCSC's focus.

I saw the Cal Poly Pomona campus the other day. It's...dull. More than dull. Flat and kind of in the middle of suburbia: nowhereland. I don't think it's the right place for a good college experience.

You've already posted this same question on the UCSC forums a few times, I think you ought to go out and ask at the Cal Poly forum to get a more informed opinion.

Jack Baskin school of engineering. Look it up numbnuts. Do some research. Go to pomona, people with your attitude are not welcome at UCSC

Don't say that :(
I might go to UCSC for EE...leaning towards it A LOT instead of UCR
You make me sad :(

Don't be sad. This guy doesn't know how to be friendly/mannered at all and saw couple of his posts and it seems like he has a very bitter tone. His title is obviously misleading.

^I was just wondering where he/she heard that? I know UCSC engineering isn't on par with let say UCLA or Cal but I've heard it's still good from other people.

Also just got an email that I have been accepted directly into Jack Baskin School of Engineering and that only a few freshmen get it? I thought i was already in it after UCSC sent out admissions?

FutureEEMajor

Yeah I also got the letter

Congratulations! The Jack Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE) is pleased to admit you to the electrical engineering major for fall 2011. Only a few, highly qualified applicants have been selected for direct freshman admission. We would like to congratulate you on your fine academic record, which has prepared you for admission to the BSOE.

I mean if you get into an engineering major don't you automatically get in?

I got that email as well. I think it was just a mass mailing to all engineering accepted students to tell us about the open house stuff and all that.

Don't listen to this guy, he obviously is ignorant. No UC is a joke in any department. UCSC's engineering department is great, and having the silicon valley right by is definitely a plus.

The engineering facilities are all pretty modern. Cal Poly was not my cup of tea when I visited.
