UCSC "rejected" me for no reason...

I just checked my UCSC portal and it said that i could not be admitted because I did not satisfy the transfer selection criteria…

I checked all of their selection criteria and I do satisfy their criteria.

They have 3 criterion:
GPA - I have a 4.00.
GEd - I completed their English, Math, and Science requirements.
Prereqs - I completed nearly all pre-reqs for my major but one.

If I got REJECTED then that’s one thing. That would show me that they reviewed my application and found someone else to be more qualified than I am.

But they didn’t even REJECT me, they just said that I didn’t satisfy their requirements and that I could not be admitted.

I can’t even appeal because they would need me to present new material that had not been presented in my original application and I have none.

Any advice or hypotheses for why I might have been “inadmissible?”
I’m probably just missing something…

So you only finished your English, math, and science classes but not any in social and behavioral sciences or arts and humanities?

“Prereqs - I completed nearly all pre-reqs for my major but one.”

Could this be your problem? You did not satisfy their Prerqs.

Sometimes universities reject students because they believe they are over qualified and unlikely to attend because of an admission offer to a better school.

^ This. On another note, would giving OP an “acceptance” to their school be considered a waste, in their opinion, since they believe he/she wouldn’t bother registering with them? My brain isn’t working right now, but don’t they have a limit/quota on how many acceptances they can give?

Why don’t you call the admissions office and ask what the reason is?

Thanks guys. Yeah I’m gonna call and check it out. Berkeley is my first choice and I’m not planning on going to UCSC but now I’m just scared what the other UC’s are gonna say…

As for the requirements, sorry, i meant that completed all English, Math, and Science/arts/humanities requirements.

As for pre-reqs, Yes it’s possible that my one missing pre-req is the problem…But you would think that they would outright reject me in a formal “rejection letter” as opposed to a “Sorry, you did not meet our criteria for Junior transfers, we cannot admit you.” Right??

I sincerely hope that they rejected me simply because they thought I was overqualified…that would be nerve-wracking but awesome.

It may just be a mistake. Mistakes happen, transcripts get lost, you don’t have the number of credits according to their records, etc, etc. Call, indeed.

Can’t be a transcript problem because they don’t ask for it yet

I know someone who was rejected by UCSC, they were told they had too many units. They were accepted to UCB. Give them a call and find out what happened. Good Luck with UCB.

I’m on the same boat with you man.

I guess these are the Junior-level Transfer Selection Criteria.

I have 3.3 gpa.

I have 72ish semester units.

Took 2 English classes at SJSU - Engl Composition and Critical Thinking.
Took multiple math classes, up to Calc 2 and Intro to Stats.
Took art 101, intro sociology, chemistry 102, biology 109 and more.

Lower division courses were completed for my major, BA 102A, 102B, Math 159 intro to stats, Calc 1 + 2 - other economics classes such as business law.

I got into UCSB but not SC?? ■■■.
I’ve already emailed them about this but no response yet.

I have never read, anywhere, that this is a practice the UCs use. Privates, sure, but not UCs.

Go see a xfer counselor at your school to go over your app and see what may be missing. And if there is a mistake then of course you can appeal. UCs make mistakes.

@flinstone‌ Good to know someone else is having the same problem…But you got into UCSB so at least that sort of indicates that UCSB reviewed your application without any problems.

I don’t think I made any mistakes on my application so yeah hopefully UCB can at least review mine…

I called but couldn’t get anyone to speak to about specifics due to a high volume of callers so I just emailed…
This isn’t a huge deal in itself but I’m just really nervous about the other UC’s now…aw man…

Thanks everyone!

how many units did you have?

about 63 not including AP units which according to my counselor totaled to about 16 units. (all semester units btw)

Did you double check to make sure you reported all your IGETC classes? Have you been looking at your UC app to make sure it matches your transcript?

Yes I’ve checked multiple times. The only thing that could possibly be weird is the AP classes.

I checked with my counselor and he said my AP classes help in completing my IGETC. So I included them in the AP test scores section of the application and that was that. BUT Was there something else I was supposed to do?

Maybe I was supposed to explain how my AP classes finish my IGETC in the comments or something?
Even then, this wouldnt explain how i DIDN’T satisfy the transfer selection criteria as those don’t metion the IGETC anywhere.

Have you called UCSC?
As long as it’s you calling (not your CC transfer counselor) they will let you know the
reason for the rejection.

It may be that there was an error on their part, which may impact your other UC schools.
It could be that you input your AP credits incorrectly on the application, and they don’t recognize them.
Another thing that can happen is that some of the humanities pre-req’s for the CSU system (specifically some of the English), do not qualify as UC req’s.

Mine says the same thing, that I didn’t meet their requirements…I don’t have IGETC completed, but for engineering transfers UCSC does not recommend that IGETC be completed.
