UCSC Social Science Departments

I have been accepted as a transfer student to UCSC and for a major in Anthropology. However upon looking at course catalogs, I see that there are MANY classes marked as “Not offered during the 2012-2013 school year”. Many of these classes are ones that i would be specifically interested in taking and if they are not going to be offered again this year, i am interested in changing my major to something other then anthropology. The sociology major had much more classes offered that were not noted as not being offered last year. Are the classes that are not offered not to be offered again next year? Does anyone have any information about this?
I would also like to receive some information about the two departments of Sociology and Anthropology at UC Santa Cruz. Is one better then the other? Is one better respected? Would one major be better suited for graduate school and eventual teaching of college? What about would one major be specifically better for a market other then teaching? Any and all information would be appreciated! Thank you!
