Question: Does having more than 60 units help your chances of being admitted? If so, this was never reported to me when I had applied, and I think that is unfair.

I had 59 units plus credits from 3 AP exams in high school – my reasoning was that 3 AP Exams would definitely put me at [at least] 60 units. I hope I wasn’t wrong; this is one thing I’ll discuss on the phone on Monday.

ok just wanted to make sure guys. i know the verification worksheet thing is due today but i just heard back from them yesterday. what are the chances that they would give an “exemption” or an extension to people that just heard back yesterday? Pretty big right?

No, it doesn’t matter. My units after Spring are going to be like 61, barely above the required amount. Technically I’m considered an under- Junior standing transfer because I have 60 units but am behind on pre-requisites.

Question for Papibien and mythology, and every other TAG student who was rejected–What did your email say?
I was rejected from TAG too, but I’m not getting any of these “choose a different major” things. Besides, I’m a poli sci major, which is definitely not impacted. I’m trying to figure out if my email was unique or if it’s even a complete rejection. My stomach is just writhing with anger and anxiety. Can they even do this?
The only thing I can string together is that we have something in common: a 3.2 gpa.

I am so glad I don’t have to send the worksheet, that would have been a hassle. However, I think they probably would be ok with it being a few days late since a lot of us heard back from UCSD yesterday. I also hope they will reverse some people’s decisions because it looks like the people who have TAG should get in.

Today I actually went to the UCSD bookstore and bought a few things to celebrate my acceptance: license plate, 2 shirts, decalc, pens and pencils and a cup (for my grandpa)

I am starting to think that a lot of UCs are just jerking people around.
After I got the-worst-email-ever, I started thinking of my back-up plan: apply for TAG in winter 2011. So I emailed the admissions office asking about TAG for winter 2011, and I got an email saying that they are not accepting applicants for winter 2011. I saw some rumors about that on the internet, but I guess I wasn’t really paying attention because I was assuming I wouldn’t have to apply for winter 2011, with TAG and all.
But, ***?! If you go on to the UC Transfer site, and click on the TAG form (<a href=“Understanding UC transfer | UC Admissions”>Understanding UC transfer | UC Admissions), it clearly states that UCSD accepts TAG applicants for winter semester. It was also in this year’s school catalog, and everything. They can’t do that with so little warning! I mean, maybe say, “okay, we won’t be accepting applicants for winter 2012,” but they’ve had that up all year for winter 2011, and people have been planning on it! People don’t just start planning for college the summer before they apply. It takes at least two years, not including the major financial planning.
And now they’re rejecting TAG students?
I mean, I get being strict about freshman admissions. That’s a bigger honor, and a bigger risk they’re taking in accepting those younger students. But UCSD and the other TAG UCs offered transfer students a great deal with TAG and not only did many of us try to take advantage of it, but we were depending on it.

Ok I bought 2 t-shirts, 1 decal, 1 cup, 1 pen, 2 pencils, 1 license plate frame and 1 postcard - that costed me 58 dollars tax included. The licence frame was 15.95 (they had some for cheaper but they looked too cheap lol) and the decalc was 2.95.

The shirts were at a pretty good price as well because they have 20% off on clothing until May 7th. I bought a regular t-shirt with UCSD Sixth College written on it for 11 bucks and a UCSD v neck t-shirt for 15 bucks.

I really like the fact that they had shirts for each individual college!

wow thats cheap. MAY7th? transfer admit day is may 8th : [ yea i guess that is cheap for shirts. i remember my friends buying school shirts for 20 dollars. hmm i guess ill shop online for cheaper misc ucsd items. thanks for the info

it was made official in 2009 that the UC’s will no longer offer winter/spring admissions unless you applied for fall and was accepted for other semesters. UC’s decided to do this because of the budget

I didn’t get an e-mail regarding my application. I had to go to myTritonLink and this is what it said:

"Thank you for logging in to the UC San Diego application status site for Fall Quarter 2010 undergraduate applicants. We have carefully reviewed your application and regret that we are unable to offer you admission to the University of California, San Diego. The selection process was very difficult this year due to a record number of highly competitive applicants.

Information regarding our selection process is available through these Frequently Asked Questions.

man, I can’t turn in my verification today because my dad is out of town…anyone know exactly what “priority funding” means because it says you won’t get priority funding if you don’t turn it in by may 1?

mj did you do your fafsa? because there is no verification sheet if you did. its all done electronically. i get no federal loans and the PLUS loan we did get we have to pay it all by at 7.9 percent which my parents are paying for actually. so hope this clears up some complications.

im assuming it priority funding=maximum funding that you were awarded.

“Your application must be completed by May 1st in order to be considered for university grants, loans or work-study”

it did not say federal grants (cal grant). so im guessing that you would still get the majority of your financial aid but risk the possibility of losing a chunk of “university grants, loans, or work-study.”

@joey, yea i did my fafsa but they requested the verification still, this is wat it says:

“Your file has been selected for review in a process called “Verification”. In this process our office will compare the information reported on your FAFSA with your 2009 Federal Tax forms.”

I got rejected to UCSD but every other UC accepted me including Berkeley

My stats are
GPA:3.80
MAjor: Political Science
Prereqs: done by spring
IGETC: done by spring

I feel so bad … UCSD is by first choice … I am planning to appeal … any advices?
For Gods sake, why would UCSD deny me when places like CAL accepted me ?

So many denials from so many well-qualified applicants, and now Tonyfromsanfran’s rejection in light of his acceptances from every other UC suggests that UCSD may have erred severely. Does anybody else agree? If so, what should we all do now? Or should it only be a few people (i.e. those denied but had TAG agreements) doing it?
