UCSD Class of 2018 Official Decisions Thread

@PetraElise Close enough! Lol. I just felt isolated because it seems like I’m the only visual arts: media major on this page.
What college did she get accepted to? Mine is Revelle.

@defying – Sixth, and yes, I was reading all the majors people were posting, and didn’t see any art ones! I think the artistic types are a little less likely to be here on CC (notice it’s me posting, not her, lol) What are your plans for a Media major?

D14 Accepted!!

Major: Visual Arts (Studio)
College: Sixth
UC GPA: 4.12
UW GPA: 3.85
ELC
SAT: 2030
ACT: 31
AP: not offered at her school, instead Dual Enrollment earning an AA in Liberal Arts and Humanities this May
EC: minimal due to low income, Drama (including competitions) Tutoring, and Art
Hook: Low Income, 1st Generation
Essays: excellent

Also accepted at Whittier (John Greenleaf Whittier Scholar), UCSC (invited Regents/FYHP), and CSUCI (Invited President’s Scholar). Waiting on UCB and Scripps

I think she was accepted for a combination of rigor of course work and solid GPA/test scores. I also think her essays really showed who she is, and beautifully expressed her passion for art.

Hey, can we not make this the stats results thread? Perhaps adopt the other one? Because last few days I’ve been keeping up with this thread (if you guys felt a gloom leaning on your shoulders when you were waiting for admissions info, that was me) and I know that there’s at least 40+ pages here of people freaking out over UCSD not releasing decisions when they said they would. The other one’s been all stats, which would make cleaner data viewing.

Yes, @Korean101, I meant Sixth! I don’t know why I said First. Any info on Sixth?

@PetraElise I want to work in film. My main goal is to become a film director. Since UCSD doesn’t have a “film production” major, this is the closest I can get. The major sounds really fun though, so I don’t really mind.
Congrats to your daughter!

Hey guys, on the provisional admissions contract, when it states that you must maintain a 3.0 UC GPA in a-g courses, does that not include the courses in the subjects that I have already fulfilled? For example, I am taking linear algebra right now but since I satisfied my three/four years math requirement long ago, does that mean the grade I get in the linear algebra course won’t be factored into my senior year UC GPA in a-g courses? (And I know that the g requirement are the courses in subject areas that were already fulfilled but I have fulfilled the g requirement long ago as well, so I was wondering if the linear algebra course may roll into the g course category).

I was so scared. I didn’t get into my first pick, but I got into Visual Arts(studio).

@PetraElise I also got into the visual arts(studio)

Rejected
[I have to say I’m really surprised…]

I don’t understand why at all.

Reflection: Perhaps it was my average extra curriculars. Idk. Everything else statistically, I was fine…

LOL well I thought UCSD was a reach school for me… but I guess not. I"m actually really surprised I got rejected, but I;m sure I can get into other places. I got a supplemental request from UCLA and UCB. So not that worried.

But wow, I look at like a SAT/GPA graph for UCSD and I am literally that one red dot in the midst of hella blue and green dots.

Okay UCSD. I wouldn’t have gone anyways. We cool.

Sixth is an amazing college! Yes it is a bit new but it probably has given me a lot more resources since it is new the staff outreaches to students a lot more as well as the student body in Sixth is a lot more interconnected being the newer college on the campus means the students share their experiences closer with a smaller group of students- but last year we had the second highest enrollment numbers! So we definetely are growing a lot of our general education classes prepare you to deal with the real world better by taking statistics and computer science classed and other stuff to build the 21st century scholar - also to find out more look up sixth.ucsd.edu - or I guess you can ask me

@sixthyucsd, Is it difficult to change majors once admitted. My son wants to do a computer science major. He didn’t get his first choice. But he got accepted to Physical sciences (undeclared) where they have the mathematics Computer science major. If he comes as an undeclared, when can he apply for the major?
Also, is it possible to transfer to Jacob’s computer science major later?

@iamnotready i would say it’s the GPA. and getting supplemental questionnaires means you’re on the border of being rejected and accepted so they need more info to make a more accurate decision.

So the portal does finally come up…
Accepted for EE, Eleanor Roosevelt!

@sixthyucsd Thank you for the info!

My cousin graduated from UCSD five or six years and said that he HATED Sixth (which was the one he was in). He said that it was too new and unorganized and too remote. Of course, that might have changed in the meantime.

@Ijmom
All majors … (except for any major under the Jacobs school of engineering) are really easy to change they literally can log into their account once they accept their offer and change once every two weeks. This does include changing into the mathematics computer science major… it is of course possible to change into a Jacobs School of Engineering major too- but this process is harder. You have to do well in the classes as well as submit an application for review. So basically any major that has the word engineering in it does require an application and great grades in the classes - this makes it harder to get in but it certainly is possible. But of course there are other routes you can take to integrate yourself into the engineering school whether it be by adding an engineering minor or taking another major that allows you to take the classes that intersect with those of engineering majors ie mathematics computer science

Reflection: Congratulations to everyone out there who got accepted! Honestly my SAT & awards section were extremely mediocre and my essays DEFINITELY pulled me through, especially with nearly 90K applicants this year. I am so thankful for everything. Even though UCSD isn’t my top choice, it’s nice to see how my hard work throughout high school paid off (and yay I’m going to college!).
