UCSD Class of 2018 Official Decisions Thread

@rayman399 – what was your first choice major? And have you been accepted anywhere else in your first choice of major?

@defying – my D15 is interested in editing, but she’s not sure if it is a life passion yet. There are so many film studies programs, but not so many production ones. I’ve been reading that CSUN actually has a really good up and coming film production program-- not widely known yet, but is winning lots of awards and getting grants. Maybe you will find other like minded students at UCSD and inspire each other to make cutting edge films!

My son is in ERC, but has friends in sixth and they like it just fine. The dorms are really nice and there is plenty going on. I’m not familiar with the GE requirements but it isn’t that isolated-it’s just not that far to other parts of the campus.

Any idea if engineering majors get regents? And do you have to file the fafsa to be eligible for the regents scholarship?

They can. No.

@socaldad2 do non regents also have an option for awards under financial aid estimate?

@thehomiealan
Yes, I realize my GPA isn’t the highest, but there are plenty of people on this thread who got accepted that had lower GPA and SAT than I did.

And I know what a supplement is for. I didn’t get one for UCSD so I’m just saying I feel a little safer.

And also I didn’t mention this on my hooks but I also had a family hardship and depression in soph. Year so MAYBE you shouldn’t just judge someone by their GPA.

@Zanelol
my gpa isn’t the best uw - 3.7
act is: 35 m 35 w 33 r 30 s
but i think it is my e.c.s and essay that got me in!

edit: if it gives you an idea, my e.c.s include 400+ hours of volunteering at a science center as well as being the drum major for my school
also, i don’t know my UC weighted gpa, but most of my classes were weighted sophomore-senior year

Essays: They were stellar. They were probably why I got accepted. I worked very hard on them, started on September, and went through numerous revisions.
The world I came from talked about how my youth group shaped me and my dream of spreading my service to others. (very detailed and sincere)
My second essay was very personal and it talked about me fighting obesity and how I discovered myself through the experience.
Extra Info: I talked about my school not having a lot of resources and using what I have

Awards: 3 from Piano listed above and other academic awards( honor roll; academic recognition in certain classes)

Reflection: I posted this for people to have hope because if they only saw my grades and test scores I wouldnt even be considered. But it was great for them to see the real me and I probably got in because of my strong essays. I also had extracurriculars that matched my dream not just a hodgepodge of EC’s. So I hope this gave people hope, even though this isint my first choice college, it is definitely validating; I literally cried when I saw I got admitted!!

@iamnotready damn im not judging you. i was giving a possible reason as to why you weren’t accepted. just trying to provide some perspective. good luck on your other schools.

Congratulations to those who were accepted!

Am I the only engineering major w/ a SAT II Math 2 score of 630 (never got to retake)…Even non-eng’s seem to have higher scores…#Awkward

@SixthyUCSD Thank you for your input. We selected physical sciences as his second choice as it had the Mathematics and Computer Science major. Do they accept everyone to Physical sciences as undeclared?
In my son’ case, he applied undeclared.
Do you know how UCSD Mathematics-Computer Science compare with the computer science in (1) Jacobs CS
(2) UCI CS from the college of computer science and (3) UCD CS.

He also applied to UCB and UCLA undeclared natural science (they both have computer science within these departments). If they get in to these two, he would have difficult time deciding.

Decision: Accepted to Warren Sociology-Sci Med
