talked to the UCSD people (i dont trust them though) she said it comes out in batches and they dont release by major or last name. fingers crossed for all of us who dont know their decisions yet!!
Hm well it’s just my assumption but almost everyone on this forum that said they got accepted applied as the science majors or business related majors, so idk. I think it’s a good guess lol but oh well.
@ShipAlreadySank <–lol that’s optimistic
I think you’re close, but not quite on the mark. What UCSD really wants to do, especially starting this year, is maximize its yield (enrollees/admittees), while admitting the best students possible, without risking overenrollment. Since we’re all speculating here, here’s my theory:
-
Like you said, if a college wants you a lot, they accept you early. They want the adrenaline rush of your first acceptance or scholarship to be about them. That’s why UCSD tries to call Regents Scholars, minorities, top 30% of admits: a phone call is personal and exciting, and definitely boosts the school’s yield in those important groups.
-
But then if they’re going to reject everyone on March 30, why wouldn’t they just do it today? Answer: because they’re not going to reject everyone on March 30. The students that they admit and waitlist later are probably actually closer to “match” students for UCSD. I’m thinking applicants who would probably be waitlistee candidates at UCLA or Berkeley. (me) They’re likely to get a higher yield out of these students, but don’t want to admit a bunch of them before they can gauge the interest of the first wave of admits. UCSD already gets the second-most applicants in the world, and doesn’t have the high yield/low acceptance rate that UCLA does. The six college system probably makes yield even more unpredictable. So I’d say that a lot of y’all are still going to be admitted, and a lot of y’all are still going to be rejected (sorry), just like in today’s round of decisions.
Edit: i don’t know how this would explain why students from the Division of Arts and Humanities aren’t being admitted yet
I mean come on, literally everyone that said they got accepted said that they applied as bio related major, communications, psychology, comp sci, physiology, idk i can’t even list but they were all science or business related.
No one here said they got accepted as English major, history major, diigital media major… etc…
Well everyone I know who applied got in today, only one other girl got the March 30 message, so honestly who are we kidding
Did people actually get rejected on the portal?
Really thought I had a chance
SAT: 2110
UC GPA: 4.0
great major-related ECs
haha cool
I don’t think we will hear back over the weekend as people won’t be in the admissions office then. At this point in time, we don’t know whether they’re using the Cal Poly SLO method of “weeks of acceptances, then weeks of waitlists and rejections” or the UC Irvine method of “all the acceptances at once and then the waitlists and rejections.” We won’t know until the next wave of admissions decisions come out.
I’m very surprised that they didn’t release any more decisions today after 3 PM- perhaps that’s around when admissions people leave on Fridays?
For those who are citing that 30-40% of CCers got in and that’s around UCSD’s acceptance rate: careful. CC is a VERY small sample size when compared to the amount of people who applied and to cite that statistic is in no way an accurate method of figuring out whether or not all acceptances have gone out. All we can do now is wait.
No one got rejected via portal
anyone heard from nanoengineering?
@miniminimint actually, if you read upthread, there have been some people accepted for writing which is pretty similar to English I assume.
Is UCSD harder to get into than UCSB and UCI?
@gonewiththeair Ok i guess there are SOME that did, but MOST (literally frkin 95%) accepted said that they applied as the majors I talked about. so idk lol I’m trynna have some hope here
@kaatherinee yes.
@miniminimint you may have been accepted (but have not heard back yet) for some other reason. It’s very, very, possible. who really knows! but again CC is a VERY small sample size so you must take what you see here with a grain of salt.
@gonewiththeair yeah that’s true i just based my guess off of this forum lol
@miniminimint dude people got in literature, writing art already on this thread!!!
@henrytheunicorn I applied for chemistry haha. I got waitlisted from UCD though…
@kaatherinee Not true- I have a few friends that got rejected via portal.
@gonewiththeair By their voice message system, they supposedly leave the office at 5 PM
But also, I do not see why decisions can’t roll out over the weekend. I mean, it’s not like any of these operations are manual. All of the decisions are probably programmed to come out at certain times, and I suspect there will be a batch tomorrow and the proceeding day(s).
