UCSD Class of 2020 Discussion

If you want to see what the college you got into is like, check out my channel! Will be uploading a video on each college

Everyone take a deep breath! Read the earlier comments, an UCSD alumni on the calling campaign said there’s still more acceptances coming and more people will be called

Several people at my school have been rejected and waitlisted for UCSD. In fact, I cant think of anyone who has gotten in yet. And also, lots of high stats people at my school have been march 30’d as well

And since they’d be calling from Mon to Fri this week, the number of acceptance must be significant.

If there are any other alumnus participating in the callings, please do post! The more the merrier

They are probably managing yield. Two of the most important factors in rankings are acceptance rate and yield. Applications are way up at UCSD (and almost every college in the country). This takes care of lowering the acceptance rate.

But the population of high school classes graduating each year has been decreasing for several years. The rise in applications is driven by each applicant submitting more applications than ever before. This means that applicants, especially the most qualified, will be turning down more colleges than before. If they stretch it out over a longer time, they can adjust the number of offers as accepts/declines come in.

I agree with @vimyle! I’m definitely interested in knowing whether the calling campaign is for people who have already been admitted or for people who have been March 30ed.

@mij221 I heard that too. Is that true about how UCSD folks are usually really antisocial? My friend who goes to UCLA visits his girlfriend who’s in UCSD. She says that it’s “okay”, but he says that they’re all relatively kept-to-themselves
?

Although I’m not in Sixth, honestly the college that you get into at UCSD only matters for the GE requirements, otherwise, it’s the same as every other college’s; unless the dorms are really important to you

Do you guys think that they released the top 9% of students from schools? because all the ones i know who were accepted are in that category??

@pleaseacceptme69 how could you find out if you’re top 9%?

I still honestly believe that there are actually no acceptances coming out. Im trying to be as realistic as possible so I don’t get my hopes up for nothing. It’s possible that the alumni are calling people that have already been emailed and thus know that they got in. The difference between the number of rejections and the amount of people accepted is way too significant.
P.S it’s possible that the admissions officers are lying to avoid controversy.

@pleaseacceptme69 don’t think so, I’m in top 9% and got March 30ed haha

I hate to rain on anyone’s parade but I think the Alumni Calling Campaign is different than the Early Calling Campaign. This one appears to be calling admitted students (students who know they’ve been admitted) who didn’t receive calls in the first campaign. http://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2016/2016-2-23-1.html

its on the UC application when u view ur app. and @sjinae lol it was just a theory
i think a good handful have been so far

@pleaseacceptme69 oh no I didn’t mean to come off rude I’m sorry :frowning: i just wanted to let you know

@sjinae haha no its ok!! thanks

Sure, UCSD is not known for being a party school, but we’re not “socially dead” as how people put it. If you like drinking and parties, you’ll definitely find them here. If you’re not into that, then why does UCSD being social or not matter? UCSD is a great academics school, especially for pre-meds and engineering, which are highly involved in research. As for those who are still waiting on acceptances, I’m sure more will be out later this month. My cousin got accepted into computer engineering/science today (3/13), but I didn’t get my acceptance letter until the 20’s (2013) as a physiology/neuroscience major. I don’t know how admissions work for our school but they know what they’re doing; so unless you got a definitely answer (rejected/waitlisted), there’s still chance for you to get in.

I tend to agree with @Momof7thgrader that the alumni calling campaign of this week regards people who already know they have been admitted and the calling is to increase yield numbers.

Okay so I just called them asking if I should lose hope if I didn’t get a decision. She said no–but then she said the typical “March 30th” statement. I don’t know you guys
I feel like the next batch might be majority rejections. Also I wasn’t a fan of the lady’s tone maybe I’m just being crazy. I mentioned the UCI thing from last year and she claimed “she had no idea what that was.” Idk, I hope I still have a chance, but I also am going to try and be realistic. Anybody else call them?
