what did the John guy even say
Looks like Davis is the real winner from all of this March 30ed drama. I’d like to imagine Davis casually suggested the idea to SD in a brilliant marketing ploy. :))
if we get rejected to SD, should i consider appealing? do appeals work if well written?
@rbakk212051 John guy said that UC accepted people with average gpa and sat/act scores because those kids have rich parents, which seemed invalid…
@rbakk212051
Typically appeals are ineffective unless important new info has come up
@JohnM2020
My parents have been both unemployed for 8 years, so basically I had $0 income for all that time (EFC=0). I have a 4.14 UC GPA and a low ACT score of 27 and 26 (I sent both in, even though I knew the score of 26 may hinder my chances). However, I got into UCD and UCR so far, not to mention that I applied as a computer engineering major which I believe is pretty hard to get in. I actually believe that being low income actually helps you because it shows you overcame financial burdens and tried hard in school.
So we really have absolutely no info about the next batch of results? This is depressing :-<
After reading the UC guide for the evaluation in admissions process, it’s evident that they give extra leniency to people who come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds (in fact, our college admissions counselor said that those with an income over 200k should not put it on the UC application and we know families that left off their earnings on the application because of this). People who come from a place of financial hardship are given more legroom which, I believe is the way it should be as nowadays there are advantages to being able to afford things like a college counselor and SAT/ACT tutor!
Haha everyone is saying Davis!! Is it that good of a UC?!!!
@VRSanctum I myself have been accepted in two UC’s with a very low family income.
Dance Everyone Dance! Get up right now and dance!! =)) :bz :)>- =D> \m/
@Aquariumgal
It’s definitely high in the rankings for certain majors, I’d say it’s the 5th best UC after UCB, UCLA, UCSD and UCSB. However, UCD used to be way higher than UCSB and UCI in the past, but now those two UC’s have definitely catched up to UCD over the years, and may have surpassed it already. UCD has to step up it’s game or else it’ll be a low-mid tier UC.
It’s especially weird how UC Davis has $1 bil worth of endowments (higher than UCSD), while UCI has $500m and UCSB has $266m. They got to use that money for some new facilities or strengthening their programs.
@JohnM2020 If you are already accepted, then my question is: why do you question about some students who got in with your definition of “average gpa and sat/act scores?”
Ok so I was bored and just did a little Twitter sample to see if there should be more accepted posts compared to last year. Yes I know this is only a small sample but I was curious. On Twitter I searched UCSD accepted and so far there have been around 280 posts. Last year there were around 390. This is just a really rough estimate I counted by 5’s but I hope that this helps those of us still pending!
My portal is down
@selectyour Yeah, mine is down as well! Hopefully this means something.
welp got into ucsc
@rbakk212051 Congratulations!
same, some people (i.e myself) got the decision for ucsc early without the last name matching the schedule
haha thank you. Is transferring within the UCs something that is possible?
