UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

Damn that would really suck if decisions didn’t come out until after the 24th…

@Gumbymom @BunnyBlue You both seem to know a lot about UC decisions and patterns of when they usually come out each year…any thoughts?

I saw this notice on a UCSD admin website from last year.

“Admissions decisions will be released mid-March, and once again the fall 2016 admits are among the best and brightest with admissions offers from top institutions across the country. Faculty interaction is a key factor in a student’s college decision-making process. Therefore, faculty participation is essential to our success. In an effort to increase participation, please forward this invitation to your staff and colleagues”

This is purely speculation on my part; I think after the decisions come out on the 10th,the calling campaign will continue in order to persuade admits to commit. It is a yield improving strategy.

This year March has five Fridays so things might be pushed back a week.

The notice also states that the calling campaign is an “important yield event”, so it makes sense that UCSD calls the admits throughout March to talk them into coming!

@wormholes I am sorry. I thought that the memo in the link would help, but it didn’t. I don’t know anything. It seems now that the calls reported earlier to those who were invited to the VIP tour must have been the start of the campaign for this year. Hope it continues, but who knows?

I was just reading the thread “Who got the call?” from 2012. It was very interesting. Calls were reported to the thread that came in roughly from March 2 through March 15, and then the regular decisions came out March 17. There seemed to be more of the calls to URM’s early on and more calls to Regents later, but they were mixed, and some who were called seemed to be neither. There were also days when no one reported a call.

@BunnyBlue No, don’t apologize! The link you posted was already very helpful to begin with  So based on the 2012 pattern, do you think decisions this year will come out after March 5th (end of Faculty Calling Campaign) or after March 24th (end of Early Calling Campaign)?

I don’t think the schedule I posted was actually followed. Perhaps the early calling campaign started Feb 23 when ZHB1999’s son was called. So I don’t really know when it started or when any part of it ends. And I don’t have any prediction now for when decisions will come out. :-/

I don’t know anything LOL but it seems like UCSD starts releasing the 2nd Friday of March, on the same day as Davis, with waves coming out through the rest of the month?

Looks like they have a regular Calling Campaign event this year in addition to the Early Calling Campaign event. So I guess the decision date is March 10?

March 10??? @-)

Is March 10th more or less confirmed?

No? It might be, but nothing is really confirmed here–some nice educated guessing, but none of us really know for sure!

Someone on the UCI thread found this: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/campus-notification-schedule-2017.pdf And all it says is that UCSD comes out in mid-March, so maybe during the week of March 13th?

I wish it would be March 10th, too, but I’m not going to be disappointed if it’s later on haha

I was under the impression (although I’m probably wrong) that the early campaign was for the regents and underrepresented minorities and that the Faculty calling campaign was for everyone else who was admitted. I was thinking (wishing) that maybe they’ll release decisions on the 10th and then call the majority of students after they were admitted in an attempt to create a personal connection and hopefully increase UCSD’s yield. Probably just my wishful, delusional thinking though…

This is for 2015, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still true. It says that in the Early calling campaign they will notify students of their admission but the rest of the calls will be to “admitted” students. I might just be obsessing over wording, but I thought it was worth sharing… http://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2015/2015-2-23-2.html

“The Early Calling Campaign is the first of the series and will take place March 3-8, 2015. Faculty and staff are asked to call historically underrepresented students who have been admitted to your department, program or college. By participating in this important yield event, you will be the first person to share with these students the exciting news of their admission to UC San Diego! Following the Early Calling Campaign, current UC San Diego students will call admitted students to invite them to Triton Day and campus overnight programs; the following week UCSD alumni will share their Triton experiences with admitted students who are not contacted in the first two campaigns.”

@gooddancinggroup I think that is what it means, that makes more sense.

Looking at the Class of 2019 thread, one person was accepted on the 11th through phone for Regent’s, after the end of the Early Calling Campaign. (It could just be that the volunteers didn’t get to them during the first week, so it was overflow? Or since only one person specifically mentioned Regent’s, it was just an outlier?)

Decisions were released on the 13th.

It seems that they do the Early Calling Campaign, then the next week continue admitting students through phone (and maybe taking care of anyone that they didn’t through to on the last week?). Then they release decisions at some point within that next week after the Early Campaign, but not necessarily before sending out other phone call acceptances? At least based off of 2015. So the week of both March 6th or March 13th looks pretty solid for getting decisions, if precedent holds out.

I was just speaking to a friend who is currently a freshman at UCSD. He said that after he applied, he didn’t hear a word from UCSD. No phonecall, email, nothing!
On decision date, he logged into his portal, and found he was admitted, to honors college. He is now a happy undergraduate.

His stats–ACT 35, GPA 4.4, Econ major, south asian, CA resident, no hooks

Not getting a phone call is not fatal after all! Phew!

@gooddancinggroup Thank you for the link!

Well, not getting the phone doesn’t mean you were rejected, so…
hopefully they will tell us the official date of release soon T^T

it’s me, back for my daily question. anyone get a call??

does anyone know of any cases where someone got a UCSD email using the housing trick, but was NOT accepted? I know that it’s uncertain but WHY would an email be created for you if you were going to get rejected?
