UCSD Class of 2022

@fashionista99 they can only enroll 5300 and they accept about 3x more than that because they know not everyone will attend.

@fashionista99 not sure where you’re seeing that. ucsd almost always accepts 33-35% of applicants (since like 2010) are you sure you’re not confusing the acceptance rate with the enrollment rate?

Rejected:
4.167 gpa

Honestly not surprised. I applied to the neurobiology program and it is extremely competitive.

hey Muir peeps, come to the Muir thread we have cookies. :stuck_out_tongue:

@prideful This was from my rejection letter: “UC San Diego continues to receive many more applications from highly qualified applicants than we can accommodate. For Fall 2018, we received 97,000 applications for a freshman class of approximately 5,300.“

Am I just misreading it? Because I am interpreting it as they only accepted approximately 5,300

from San Diego

@fashionista99 yeah! so basically they only had 5300 spaces for the incoming freshman class. but not everyone they accept is going to enroll, right? so they accept 3x that amount (~16,000) to make up for the tons of people who get accepted but choose not to go to ucsd

@ivyforest you already heard from berkeley?

@avz11ymc4, within UCSD there are 6 different colleges. On her UC application, at some point she had to rank the 6 UCSD colleges based on which one she preferred. All the colleges have for the most part the same amount of opportunities as far as classes go. The only difference is that each college has different GE requirements. It is incredibly difficult to switch into engineering, but not impossible. All the engineering majors are capped, which means that you cant just declare engineering as your major. At the end of her first year, she will have to “reapply” per se and via almost a lottery system see if she can get into BioE. While getting all A’s will help, they won’t guarantee admission into BioE. If she has her heart set on getting into BioE, I recommend her taking the courses for BioE in the fall (Chem 6A, Math 20 series). Otherwise, she will struggle to graduate in 4 years because bioE is extremely rigorous at UCSD. As for your final question, Idk your daughter’s stats, but I couldn’t count on getting into UCLA because its better think you aren’t and have a lovely surprise of getting in if you do, rather than disappointment. If you have any other questions about bioE, feel free to ask me  im in bioE and warren as well

Accepted!
But UCLA rejected…
Need to be hopeful and thankful though

rejected!

@prideful Ohhh okay. See now that makes sense. Sorry, I’m a first-gen. This whole college process is still a bit new to me. I feel so dumb now

@fashionista99 no haha it’s all good! i think i’m the first in the family to actually go through the college (admissions) process too. it’s just… lots of research. but yeah ucsd having a 6% acceptance rate would be an absolute nightmare.
