UCSD Class of 2022

I only know from transfer experience, but overall:

  • ERC has one of the toughest humanities sequences - MMW. I'm a transfer and I know some transfers who were up for two days straight doing that class work. It's brutal.
  • Revelle is very STEM heavy. Expect to take a lot of science/math courses for your GEs. If you're a STEM major, you're fine. If you're humanities, it sucks.
  • Muir has the least amount of GEs (my co-workers both started as UCSD as a freshman two years ago) and if you want to be on track to potentially graduate early, this would be the best college (from what I've been told).

Don’t know too much about the others, but Warren, Sixth and Marshall are probably a little more challenging than Muir. All I know is that ERC’s MMW sequence is the worst.

also ETA: INTER-COLLEGE TRANSFERS ARE DIFFICULT. Look into them around your 3rd quarter. You will need proof to switch. It’s notoriously difficult (believe me, many of us have tried and were denied).

@SarcasticPanda and @thinkweism Thanks. I got ERC for CS. I am not planning to attend UCSD, just was curious.

@prideful Same for my S! He got into Sixth and it was his second to last choice. I don’t get it and we have heard it is very hard to switch. It’s influencing how he feels about being admitted.

@hopefulhoper What was your major? And was that your capped/weighted uc gpa?

Saw some posts about people saying that they feel bad for not being accepted into their top choice UCSD colleges. So here I am to say what I heard from a counselor. She told me that for UCSD, they could put you in the college that has the best/hardest classes for your major if they think you have the potential, so choosing another college for you could be actually a good sign. I don’t know if this is true, but just throwing out here.

@screenname3 It’s very difficult to switch colleges and doesn’t happen often. You have to appeal and fill out a transfer request and essentially need to prove why you should be allowed to switch, and that you will be able to graduate faster in the other college (i think graduate two quarters earlier) or something.

@celtics5920 It’s pretty difficult to switch into bioengineering. Because UCSD is known for bioE, and it is incredibly competitive to get in, I would recommend going to a school that you’ve already been accepted into BioE for if you truly have your heart seat on majoring in bioE. However, if you are hesitant, open to other majors, and love UCSD’s environment, I would consider still coming to UCSD.

@road2college2018 @MtEverett if you two contact UCSD offices, I think you can switch to the other person’s college.

@happywaffles

ERC: newest buildings and everything kinda feels new. Decent food. Hard Af GE’s because you have to take 5 quarters on writing and history (MMW) for your GE. Its so close to the beach and seriously pretty though.

Sixth: LOL, no one really pays attention to sixth college people. Their housing is compared to being in the woods cause they resemble cabins. The lecture hall is gorgeous and very nice tho. If you look at our meme page, most of the memes are about raccoons being in sixth college lmao. GE’s aren’t that bad. You literally can’t get freshman 15 cause its a hike to class everyday from Sixth and Warren.

Warren: The college that is known for being the engineering college because literally everyone is a Stem major. It’s so far to walk but its nice. The GE’s are not bad and if writing isn’t your thing, then warren is good for you haha. The food isn’t great. Im in warren and its not that bad. I personally like it especially because first years have the option of living in apartments which i definitely recommend cause i love cooking my own food.

Marshall: Its chill and super lowkey. The writing sequence isn’t that bad but its can be challenging. Dining food is aight. The college itself is honestly underrated in my opinion

Muir: Everyone’s fav cause they are social af and their dorms have a view of the ocean. Pines is their dining hall and everyone eats there cause the food is pretty good.

Revelle: Dining hall is ridiculously nice. Housing is nice. If you’re a STEM major youre in luck cause your walk to class will typically be 5 minutes tops. GE’s aren’t that great cause you have to do lots of writing though.

I got into UCSD as a General Bio major in Revelle but I’m wondering how hard it would be to switch into neuroscience because its something I really want to do. Do you think its smarter to just go to UC Davis or BU because I got into neuroscience there? Please let me know

I am admitted into the school, and I just find out I did something wrong in the applications. On the Nonresident Exemption Screening form on UCSD’s portal. For question 3, “ By the first day of instruction at UC, will you have attended 3 or more years of K-12 education in California and have graduated from a California high school?”, I checked “YES” for this question, but it should be “NO” as I checked on my UC center application.

I already sent a email to explain the situation… I hope nothing bad will happen

@lovespink yeah ucsd is one of my top schools but there’s a reason why i didn’t choose sixth and the fact that i got placed there with likely no chance of transferring is definitely going to influence my decision to go or not.

@TheGrizzzlyBear Ucsd has several tracks for neuroscience, and i don’t think they are all capped. i think neuroscience with an emphasis in bio is tho. So if your interested in the other ones, transferring in should be no problem.
