UCSD Class of 2022

@gulf1609 hi…yes, she’s in Muir. Would a theater major be in any other college?

I got waitlisted…
4.8 Weighted 4.0 Unweighted
33 ACT
History Major

Accepted to UCLA, Regents/Honors to Davis, Early Admit to UCSB

I’m so confused…

@Gumbymom I got waitlisted at UCSD and applied for a CS major. Do I still have a chance at getting off the waitlist with a CS major, or would I have had a better chance of getting CS if I got in as undeclared and then transferred later?

Here are my stats:
In-State, Female
UW GPA: 3.92
Weighted GPA: 4.25
ACT: 33
700 Math SAT II
650 SAT Chem
ECs: Internship at a Tech company, taught CS to students at underserved school districts, won multiple awards for CS projects, and lots of volunteer work
Essays: They were pretty good and unique

Accepted
Human Biology
Warren

When do they send out their acceptence packets? And is anyone going to triton day?

Accepted for Pre-Economics! Does anybody know if the school houses have rankings? I was accepted to Roosevelt.

@froggypop. We’re local to SD and will be going to Triton day. D was also accepted for Human Biology at Muir. Not sure what you mean by school houses.

Calling campaign for Regents etc., starts today right?

@yorkymom, @gulf1609 … my DS was accepted on Muir, that was his first choice, but he is biology major. I didn’t know about arts preference for this … He was accepted in a bunch others colleges, so I’m not sure if he is going to UCSD, but I personally like his choice

@karah123: Most likely if you are accepted off the waitlist, you would be placed in your alternate major if it isn’t capped or Undeclared. You would then have to decide what is more important, pursuing CS at another school or accepting UCSD with another major. Switching into CS is now done as a lottery, so no guarantee. My advice is go for the direct admit and get excited about your other acceptances.

@soehye my son is a freshman now in high school. I was wondering if you you and some of the others can share the kind of EC’s that you participated in? Thanks

So UCSB I much rather go to than sd, should I get in there tomorrow, is there somewhere in ucsd I can reject their offer that way someone on the waitlist can get my spot?

If you already accepted one UC Offer, is it possible to change before May1st? I accepted another UC but now got UCSD

Yes you can but if you gave a deposit you will loose that. Congrats on the ADMIT!

we are in the same boat with my son, although he was admitted under Physics at Warren.

my s was admitted under Physics instead of undeclared.

Accepted for Communications, Roosevelt

In-state
GPA 4.7 W, 3.96 UW
SAT 1540
ACT 35
Asian F

@quinnbossel there isn’t a huge hurry to decline an offer. Schools accept a lot more kids than spaces knowing that a good chunk apply to many schools. About 25k accepted students have to decline before they turn to the wait list. Get all your decisions, make a deposit. You should get more info in the next few weeks with instructions on how to decline.

@quinnbossel A lot of people have to do what you did for it to have an impact on the wait list. The schools always accept more than they have slots for.

@asrwale since you’re wondering about ECs, my son was accepted for marine biology major in Warren and here are his ECs;

Athletics:
4-year, 3-season varsity athlete (plus summers in club)
Rowing team since 8th grade (varsity since 9th grade) competed at national & international level
Swim team (varsity, States championship since 9th grade, captain gr 12) competed at USA Regional level

Community service:
taught swim clinics for local youth
mentored younger students in high school biology classes

Employment:
Worked as life guard since end of grade 10, Red Cross certification as both lifeguard & instructor

Other activities
Active member of local dog sledding club
Trains & mushes our family’s Siberian Husky team. (Maybe that was his “hook”?)

Good luck to your freshman son! I think the key to ECs is to find something he enjoys doing and to stick with it and take it as far as he can. It helps to find something uncommon. Everybody & his brother plays soccer and piano, so rowing or playing the French horn will make his application stand out.

Does anyone know when the financial aid is expected to come out?
