UCSD Club/Major-related Social Life

there is a very strong chance i will end up at ucsd in the fall. i really really love the school, but much like many others, am worried about the lack of a social life. i know that this stigma is not entirely true, but it doesn’t seem necessarily false. i really do not want to join a fraternity, and am instead interested in joining various clubs, i.e. KSDT radio, college democrats, general store co-op, etc.

I am also planning on majoring in a major that I would assume is quite small. Does this foster strong relationships as opposed to much larger majors?

Is there much of a ‘party scene’/social outings to be found within clubs and small majors?

I’m sure there are plenty of clubs that have social outings. I’m not sure about being in a small major though. It’s possible.

Do you know the number of slavs in UCSD King? I checked the demographics but they don’t have such a category, they generalized it under white, which was 25% I think (really low). I’m from Eastern Europe myself.

That’s a good question. I really have no idea. I cannot personally remember meeting any Slavs here. I know there is a European Student Association (I just looked it up and there is one) but I don’t how many people in there are Eastern European. I will say that UCSD is generally a really accepting place so I’m sure you will meet a lot of people here who you find things in common with. Just out of curiosity, where in Eastern Europe are you from?

I’m curious as to why UCSD is known as socially dead but 2010, 2012, it took nobody off waitlist while UCLA/UCSB/UCD had to dig into their waitlists for in-state students.

I’m Turkish actually, lived in Istanbul for 14 years and living in Bosnia for the last 4 years, for the entirety of high school. I speak the language though, and know very much about the culture, I also have Slav looks (pale, tall). My father’s side of the family came to Turkey around the 1920s. We all identify ourselves as Turks (and because my mom is too). I know Turkey isn’t eastern Europe, or Europe at all, but I asked the question because Slavs are more numerous, could be from Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Russia, etc… did you meet any Turks?
