UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

I saw or heard some stats like that when I attended Triton day. 17,800 applied to transfer and 2,400 accepted. Did anyone else see or hear that? I don’t remember if they said it in the CS welcome or if it was on one of the handouts. I’m sure stats will be published at some point.

@suenos53 I heard/read that. Papers from Triton Day said it on there, and admittance letter says it, I think.

I got this info when I went to Los Angeles reception. I saw the admission stats on their power point slide during the presentation. And I just received triton handout mail yesterday from SD and the admission info was written on the handout too.

Yes, they have 2,400 spots BUT that is not they number of people they admitted.

They have 2400 open spots, but will accept many more because of course not everyone who is accepted is going to take a spot. How many actual acceptances do you think were sent out?

@oriolee those are their expected yield/class sizes. they always admit more than that (the previous year’s percentages) in the expectation that a good percentage of those admitted will not SIR

I am trying to decide between San Diego and Santa Cruz. They both look good in CSE. I was going to go with San Diego but then yesterday I received a Regent’s scholarship with Santa Cruz. Anyone else trying to weigh the pros and cons between schools?
What factors are you looking at?

I have a question about the transcript. So I made a mistake on my transcript report in my application. There was 1 course I took only worth 1 credit but I put 5 credits instead. It was just a PE class and it was not a requirement course for my major transfer. Should I report this to UCSD or what should I do now?

@psy2017 Contact admissions. It shouldnt be an issue, but you definitely need to report it.

Going to visit the campus in a few days. Very excited.

@suenos53 I am trying to decide between UCSD and UCSC as well. I am a bay area native, so UCSC will be much closer. Have merit scholarship from UCSC. I am a psychology major and UCSD is much higher ranked than UCSC, however UCSC psych program doesn’t look too shabby either. Also love the calmness and beauty of the UCSC campus. Currently leaning towards UCSC, will wait another week before SIR’ing.

@108Degrees I may make a visit to SD, SC, and Irvine campuses next week. As several people in my industry have said, all these schools are good and at this point I should look at fit and where I would thrive. I think you could probably get involved in research at either SD or SC. At least I have heard these two universities would allow me to get involved. Good luck in your decision.

@suenos53 I visited Irvine and UCSD two weeks ago. Irvine looked a bit dis-organized and the campus felt a bit lifeless. UCSD was quite impressive and you feel the intellectual aura in and around the campus. Triton transfer day was well organized overall (barring the village tour which thankfully I skipped). I’ve been to UCSC a few times as I am just an hour away. Not an easy decision for me.

HELP PLEASE!
So today I found out I got accepted off the waitlist (super stoked about that) as a Global Health Major. I have pretty strong EC’s and Essays, I believe that’s why I got accepted.

Anyways, Was reading the provisions of the admissions contract, one of those being maintaining a 3.00 GPA by the end of Spring semester. I won’t be able to meet that provision regardless of how many A’s I get. i’m wondering how I even got accepted in the first place?

Did anyone else get accepted with a low GPA and talk to anyone at admissions? I will be calling the admissions office tomorrow to get it sorted out but I’m pretty afraid my acceptance will be rescinded. WOuld love a helpign hand here, thanks

First of all, congratulations for the acceptance. I don’t think they made a mistake. They must want you inspite of your GPA. Do you have a 3.0 this spring semester? Maybe that’s what they are hoping for. Or it could just be the standard conditions everyone else receives. I got the same thing on my acceptance and I have a 4.0. Call them tomorrow with confidence. Let them know you are pleased but have a question. Good luck to you and let us know.

@suenos53 thank you for responding, for some reason that made me feel a little better. I’ll be meeting the spring semester GPA requirement. Hope all goes well !

@axoltyl I’m looking over the contract for maintaining admission – to me, it looks like you’ll need an overall transferable GPA of 3.0 by the end of this term and a 2.0 for the spring term to keep your admission status. Like @suenos53 said, confidence is going to be key here. I don’t believe the “requirement” of a 3.0 is actually a true requirement at all; it’s recommended to be competitive in the selection process. Just stay on track this semester and reflect what your application showed.

UPDATE: I called the admissions office and she said that I was admitted with them knowing I had a lower than a 3.0 GPA. She said that theres no problem as long as I keep my grades up for spring. I’m so thrilled, thanks you guys for the advice

@axoltyl I’m a global health major too! I haven’t seen many of us on here. Congrats on your acceptance!
