UCSD Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@mathislife Thanks for helping!

I am planning to email the admission office and ask if I can take missing prereqs in Fall. I am not even sure if I have finished all the Calculus classes depends on how many transferred, but I am missing the second english for sure. I will also ask them to check what are the missing prereqs I have.

If I do decide to attend UCSD, I don’t want to take it/them in the summer since I have other plans (probably will do an internship+spend time with family and friends). Therefore, I will email and ask if I can take it in Fall at UCSD. If I have to take it/them in the summer, I would rather stay at Pepperdine and go to USC if admitted.

Accepted!
Psychology
I’m a north county San Diego CC transfer. I did not TAG.
Muir College (my first choice!)
GPA: 3.37 (I have an F in a nonmajor class from a previous major decision… still pretty shocked)
Essays: not particularly amazing? my circumstances aren’t that unusual/interesting
IGETC: completed
Pre-Reqs: 5/7 completed (at least 3 required for major from my understanding)
Applied: SDSU, UCSC, UCI, UCSD, CSUSM
Accepted: UCSD, UCSC, CSUSM
Waitlisted: UCI
Rejected: SDSU

Crazy, I was literally on my computer about to SIR to UCSC when I got the email from UCSD. So surprised considering I applied out of high school with a 3.97 GPA, did more extracurriculars and had a non-impacted major (physics) and was rejected

still need some help on this…

hey guys! was accepted today (woohoo) but saw that i got in for comm (which i haven’t even taken a single class in that field). i think i honestly accidentally clicked that as my major when applying, because i am currently almost done with my psych major and im getting there with my business major too. are they lenient with switching majors as a transfer? I am waiting to hear from USC (my top choice), but will def be at UCSD next fall if that doesn’t work out.

I got accepted into UCI for ChemE and UCSD for nanoengineering. I’m having trouble deciding between the two schools. Also, how can I change my major from nanoE to chemE? They are in the same department so I can’t imagine it being too hard

@Lex7777777 hey congratulations! I got in for the same major. I’m really happy because this is the only UC I applied to with this specific major. Is UCSD your first choice?

Hey All,

Need some opinions. Which school would you all choose? UCI/CS or UCSD/ECE? Rankings are mixed depending on which rankings one sees. Please no bias opinions even though this is a UCSD thread. Thanks!!! Please help !!!

@JustTakeMe I would choose the major that I like. If you like CS more, go to UCI.

In terms of academic prestige and reputation, UCSD is better than UCI (not significantly but still quite a bit).

If you accepted the waitlist position, there are no appeals.

Only if you are rejected may you appeal.

@JustTakeMe Seriously, both are great opportunities. You won’t go wrong with either. You should start looking at other factors such as environment, opportunities for internships, cost of living, student to professor ratio, ease of getting classes, etc. You could probably look around on reddit or other to see what the common complaints are. I have to say, online, I’ve seen more complaints about UCSD, however most seem to be about the social environment on campus and I don’t care about that too much.

Admitted!

Major: Political science
Major pre-requisites: Completed
IGETC: Complete prior to transferring

Pretty strong personal insight questions responses. Reviewed many times by counselors, transfer coordinators, and multiple UC Berkeley admissions officers.

UCSD Admitted!

Major: General Biology
College: Revelle
GPA: 3.2… (I messed up fall 2018 but im retaking the classes I got a D in)
EC: volunteering at UCSD health
Tag: none
Rejected: UCLA, SDSU
Waitlisted: UCI
Accepted: UCSD, UCR, PLNU
I personally think I got in because I am a middle eastern first generation and I explained my status here as a refugee when I first came to America. I definitely will have a higher gpa when I transfer in the fall because the reason it’s so low is because of the 2 D’s I got. If anyone is reading this don’t give up! I got denied from SDSU and that was my back up, I felt if my backup denied me how could my top school accept me? Luckily, the did and I’m very excited to transfer. BTW I’m a CCC student as well.

I think I’m going to have to turn down my offer to UCSD. Got into Davis and Irvine too but it seems like Davis would have the lowest COL in Sac compared to SD or Irvine. I’m majoring in Public Policy though which is unfortunate as SD has a fairly good program. Anyone know how much one could expect to make from work study?

UCSD Admitted and Accepted!
Major: Cognitive Science
College: Warren
GPA: 3.1
EC: nada
Tag: I tagged to UCI
Rejected: UCLA, Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz SLO, SDSU (all for Comp Sci)
Accepted: SFSU, SJSU, Riverside (Also for comp sci)
Probably got in cuz of easier major and I’m San Diego native but honestly, its a miracle.
Also, I did 57 units at community in one year. I had a 3.7 in the summer and got 3 Cs in the fall which really brought my expectations down.

Does anyone know about the “Change My Major” option. I was admitted into my alternate major of Literature, but I would like to change my major into Cognitive Science with Specialization in Machine Learning. The original major I applied as was CS and this is one of the uncapped majors I could find that was still related to CS. If I click the option to change my major from Literature to Cognitive Science will it will admit me as a Cog Sci major no problem or are there any other necessary steps?? If anyone has any info on this subject Pleeeaasssee let me know!

Thanks guys!!

@tacoturnup if I am reading this correctly, you have two Fs. That could very likely get you rescinded. Get Ws if it’s not too late. The UCs won’t care about the Ws, although you still have to tell them. Regarding the Fs, you need to inform them ASAP. Waiting always results in a bad outcome. Doing it early may give you some leeway. I have to be honest. Two Fs = not good.

@AceIsMy_HikingPuppy I changed my major with that link the second I got in. I didnt know what I was thinking when I applied with my original major (Environmental Systems: Environmental Policy) when I really wanted to focus more on science. So yesterday I used the “Change My Major” option to switch to Environmental Systems: Ecology, Behavior and Evolution. I thought by submitting it it would mean that the school would have to approve it. However it automatically completely changed my major. It even updated my acceptance letter with the major I wanted. Im so happy that its an option to switch  makes me feel like they are pretty lenient unless its a selective major.

I think you can do it if you are switching to a major thats not selective. However, I would ask the school just incase, maybe my major is also lenient to switch between the concentrations so im not 100% sure.

does UCSD do regents?

@megprit Thank you! I’m not sure what i was thinking either when i chose my alternate major as Lit. I’ll be sure to contact admissions Monday to make sure it won’t cause any trouble further down the road. Thanks

@AceIsMy_HikingPuppy I also changed my major when I got admitted. I originally got into econ but I wanted to pursue STEM and CS since I had most of the prereqs done so I changed my major to Cognitive Science with Specialization in Machine Learning. I’m going to call them on Monday too to make sure nothing goes wrong…
