UCSD housing, beach house/dorm?

Hi college confidential,

I am recently admittded to UCSD as an Econ major in the college of Marshall. I have looked into housing at UCSD on this forum extensively and came up with two assumptions.

Living in the dorms=socially dead on the weekend (even though many posts have clarified that it ISN’T completely dead and some small parties may still be going on every weekend, it is just not what i have previously pictured)

In year two most students move to the beach houses nearby. That’s where the parties are.

Even though I am not a huge partier and take my studies seriously, I still wish to have some fun on the weekends. I am also planning to join the frat if that helps.

Now I’d like to know what are the estimate prices for these two options. And that I live in northern California, how should I go about finding houses if I can’t come to the transfer admit day. (Based on my limited knowledge I think its the day you can meet tons of transfer students and potentially meet your future roommates) I would also like to know more about the student life at UCSD. Though I have never surfed in my life before it is something that I have always wanted to try. Thank you guys in advance.

Are you a transfer student or an incoming freshman? Transfers don’t live at the dorms, they live at The Village, which is designated on-campus transfer housing. It’s definitely not a place to party. I live in The Village right now. The “beach houses” nearby are incredibly expensive… we’re talking multi-million dollar homes. You can get stuff a few blocks inland that’s more reasonable, but if you’re talking about houses on the beach, be prepared to shell out a few thousand a month for your room. The Black Horse community right next to where I’m at has homes starting at around $4 million.

I’ve met people in my classes, both transfers and freshmen starters. The only time I exclusively met transfers was at orientation for Sixth College, and that was so boring I left after lunch.

@rainbowscnection u’ll see me there :)
