ucsd revelle transfer to ucla?

Because my family lives in UCLA ,however, I was rejected to be a freshman in 2014 by UCLA. Now I probably decide to to go to UCSD revelle, What should I do if I want to transfer to UCLA because I think UCLA seems more prestigious and convenient to me. Does anyone who got such experience or advice, thank you~

UCLA admissions are going to be tricky no matter what. Even with great stats, they might reject you. Also, keep in mind that priority goes to CCC students, so that’s working against you. (In this case, I wouldn’t recommend going the CC route, even then the chances of getting UCLA are low.)

As for what to do… obviously GPA plays a big role, so keep your grades up. Coursework is also important now, assist.org (it won’t have articulations for you) should give you an idea of what classes UCLA expects your major to complete. Again, keep in mind that even with pre-reqs done you might not get in… so if you can, try to take classes that’ll clear UCLA transfer pre-reqs and UCSD requirements at the same time, then if the worst should happen you’re not totally screwed over.

UC only ways junior transfers, btw. So that means you’ll need to survive freshman year, then apply towards the beginning of your sophomore year. By the time you transfer (end of sophomore year) you’re expected to have completed 60+ semester (90+ quarter) units. Coming from a 4-year, there might be a couple extra rules at play… I don’t remember the specifics, but I think if you hit senior standing (90+ semester units) or start taking upper div classes it might disqualify you for transfer, but you should double check those rules.

thank you.I still have some question :1. ucla transfer website shows that they give priority to community college in CA and other uc campus. Does other uc campus actually get priority ?or maybe is no difference to other school (I also got rochester, wisconsin madison accepted )2. I heard that the humanity in GE in revelle is very difficult and usually get a low gpa, especially like me because I got most education out of america. I wanna ask is whether the admission will consider the course difficulty or just overall gpa ? Thank you !

First priority goes to students transferring from CCC. After that, UC-to-UC students get second priority. Dead last are students transferring from other 4-year institutions.

I doubt course difficulty plays a factor in transfer admissions. Fact is, if you can’t maintain a high enough GPA at UCSD, why should UCLA (a university with equally, if not more, difficult classes) spend the time and resources to take you on as a student?

Also, the humanity courses aren’t just restricted to one school. The difficult humanities courses at Revelle are the same difficult courses at the other five schools.

"…and usually get a low GPA…"

Well that really depends on you, doesn’t it? If you are willing to put in the effort and the time, you should be able to succeed, even as a foreign student. I usually don’t hear people complain much about the difficulty of humanities classes. Generally it’s the science that kills.

Actually i’ve talked to a lot of UCLA representatives and they have told me that transfers from CCC and UC’s are reviewed on the same level for UCLA admissions. That may not be true for other UC schools but UCLA advertises that both groups have the same priority. Keep in mind though that CCC students have a higher admit rate because generally they have more success with finishing their prerequisite classes. UC to UC transfers have more difficulty completing prerequisites because their home institutions might not offer the necessary classes, which leads to lower admit rate. If you go to UCSD and you want to transfer to UCLA make sure that you complete all of your prerequisite classes and you should be in a good position to successfully transfer.

thank you everyone. Does any one who got similar experience would give me some specific advice(or something i should focus or notice ) to my situation ,thank you ~

What major will you be transferring into? Ultimately the most important things are to get your pre-reqs done and maintain a great GPA (and UC Reciprocity if you have time) but things vary by major and you will have more wiggle room depending on what you apply into.

my preferred subject are chemistry or chemistry engineering. other subjects about natural science or engineering are ok as well .

Engineering is hard to transfer into, especially at UCLA. If you’re set on transferring from SD to LA for any engineering major you really must finish every pre-requisite and try to maintain a GPA of 3.8 and above. Best of luck!
