UCSD vs. UCR

I am torn between UCR and UCSD primarily. I am from riverside so going to ucr would be most comfortable to me and i have taken a class there and really liked the atmosphere of the school. I took a lot of ap classes and my scores would cover a lot of the ge’s at ucr so I would save a lot of time and money. At UCSD, I got into Thurgood Marshall college which caters to humanities and the arts; I’m not sure what i want to major in or know what schools have the better programs but I know i want to go into the sciences so maybe thurgood marshall college is not best for me (changing colleges at UCSD is almost impossible. Also the GE’s at ucsd are not really covered by my ap scores except for elective credits so i still have to take the classes and spend more time and money. Plus, I don’t know the area of san diego very well. My family is moving out of state this summer so staying in riverside would be most comfortable. I get the same amount of money from both schools. I know UCSD is more prestigous than UCR and I worked my butt off to get in. Also I was thinking maybe go to UCR for my GE’s and attempt to transfer to UCSD afterward, but is that too hard or risky? I am afraid of regretting the opportunity to go to a more prestigious school like UCSD by choosing UCR. What seems to be my best option?

What majors were accepted into a UCR and UCSD?

Prestige factors little into most post Undergrad jobs so I would not take that into consideration.

If you are unsure about your major, you need to look into how flexible each school will be with switching majors. UCSD has many capped majors which are very difficult to switch into later unless admitted directly.

I also think “fit” is important in being successful in college. If you feel you can do well at UCR, you would be happy attending and financially it is affordable, I would lean towards UCR.

UC to UC transfers are definitely possible but there are no guarantees and you may find that after attending UCR for 2 years, you will want to stay.

For UCR was accepted as undeclared into the college of humanities, arts, and social sciences. I soon discovered that I would rather been in the college of natural sciences and agriculture (seeming that all colleges have the same breadth requirements I figure it would be easier to transfer into that college later).

For UCSD, I was accepted as undeclared-humanities and arts. However I have decided now that I want a BS and not a BA, would it be hard to switch? especially if my college caters to humanities/arts majors

For UCSD, which major are you planning to switch into? UCSD college system is based on your GE requirements. There are no specific majors associated with each UCSD college, you just have to fulfill the GE’s for your particular college but major in anything.

For UCR, again which major are interested in switching into in the College of Natural Sciences and Agriculture?
