UCSD's final verdict of my Appeal

<p>Well, after spending more than twenty hours on my appeal letter, including mindlessly gazing at it day after day and going over it with a lawyer, I submitted it on Monday, May 10th. I just heard back from them (through snail mail, not by e-mail as they said they would?), and it turns out that I was not convincing enough. </p>

<p>I wanted to express my gratitude to every person who helped me in any way over the last four weeks, especially in proofreading my letter and offering your feedback and suggestions. </p>

<p>Please let me know if I didn’t mention you – there was a flurry of you. </p>

<p>I have decided now that I’ll attend UC Irvine in the fall, it was my only other choice besides UCSC. I drove down and visited UCI over the last few days and honestly was not greatly impressed. Maybe I expected too much – it was only average in my opinion, especially what I saw of the student body. But is what it is. </p>

<p>I find some comfort in this time by the following quote by William Saroyan:
"Good people are good because they’ve come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know.”</p>

<p>Once again, I thank all of you, and wish anyone still deciding between two schools for SIR good wisdom in making a decision. To everyone else, best of luck this fall. </p>

<p>Oliver, my friend, let me begin by apologizing for not getting back to you in time. Once the 15th passed, I knew it was too late to help out considering the appeal deadline. I was embarrassed after that for not getting back to you in a timely manner. I’ll be the first to admit that I should have been much more attentive and responded much faster. Anyway, appeals have such a low success rate, that I haven’t even seen 1 successful one to date this year on College Conf :(. </p>

<p>I think that you’re one of the most hard-working and will be one of the most successful people on here. Your writing abilities (judging by your appeal letter and our correspondence over the months) are off the charts. I have no doubt that you’ll kill it at UCI. I kind of with I had applied lol. I never got to check it out, so I didn’t :/. </p>

<p>Anyway, congrats on everything man! You’ve been the conscience of the board and one of the most friendly and interesting people I’ve been lucky enough to talk to. Seriously dude, I wish I had your resolve! We’ll have to keep in touch.</p>

<p>Alright man, this will be my 1,999th post. I’m saving my 2,000th for when I select my school. I’ve been rereading your messages regarding the advice you gave me about…not going to certain schools for the wrong reasons. Thank you again for all of your insight and advice! I’m trying to remain logical with everything lol.</p>

<p>Edit: Btw I think your quote is perfect. It definitely makes sense for those of us that haven’t always had the easiest path. Props to you, man. We’re beginning to embark on our new lives at college. Let’s make the best out of these 2 years and all the rest!</p>

<p>I wish I could give you my spot… Just remember that your experience at UCI will be what you make of it, don’t let any stereotypes determine your mindset heading into the new school year. You have a very bright future ahead of you dude. Keep your eye on the prize.</p>

<p>It’s not as pretty, but I know some EXCELLENT teachers there and the people I know who have gone there all speak highly of it. Go take a class from my friend Mike Davis. :)</p>

Your near a lot of good people, fun things to do, and you can always drive up to the beach or something. Again, UCI is not a chump school or anything. Lots of people apply there and get rejected. In fact many people apply there for grad school. PM if you need anything else man!</p>

<p>Best of luck at UCI Oliver! Frankly, I think UCSD’s admissions department decided to take the lazy and repulsive route this year. Even the appeals page was suggesting they might appeal people and not give them a chance to SIR. Bleh.</p>

<p>Sorry to hear that happened dude, the same thing happened to me. I swear, they probably have some prick that rejected us for using too many vowels or something. lol.</p>
