Daughter an excellent HS student got waitlisted at bucknell, agonized over decision between Lehigh and UD and ended up deciding on UD ( a bit intimidated by Lehigh vibe) …totally excited about UD but just got accepted at Bucknell! What to do! She already has roomate at UD and is excited about it, but Bucknell has a great reputation… but vs bucknell? Thoughts?
University of Delaware probably has more to offer overall. Larger university which is part of a community, with Wilmington and Philadelphia in easy reach. The larger university will have endless people to meet and many majors to explore. Bucknell is very isolated in the middle of rural PA, very Greek, very small, very expensive. Would never choose a school based just upon reputation, you need to pick a place where she will love to learn. Wouldn’t bother re-charting a course as it sounds like she is invested in the U of D. Also a lot cheaper. Exception being if she is a Math major. The math Dept. was poor in the 80’s and I think has been on probation ever since, or at least until 5 years ago.
The vibe at Bucknell is similar to the vibe at Lehigh, so if she didn’t like Lehigh, she might not like Bucknell either.
