UF class of 28 applications and potential new class of 2029 process

35 ACT, NMSF (does that even matter anymore?)

That will really help. Flordia schools care a lot about those scores as they are test required.

just because applications didn’t go down doesn’t mean that yield won’t go down- lots of out-of-staters might still like to have a highly ranked school like UF as a backup but don;t plan to go there unless they have no better choices.

although I happen to agree with you- for every family that decides not to apply to UF for political reasons, there will be one who applies there precisely BECAUSE of those same political reasons.

Thoughts for UF?

OOS private high school in the northeast
4.0 unweighted GPA (not sure weighted)
IB diploma candidate, 4 HL’s, 2 SL’s (most kids at our school take 3 HL’s)
AP’s not offered, but took AP calc AB exam scored a 5
1480 SAT
Excellent EC’s/impactful leadership
No data on SCOIR for past students’ results

Thanks!

I have to know the weighted to tell you most accurately, but everything else looks pretty promising.

Good points.

My OOS (large, selective public) son got in last year with same SAT and UW GPA (he had APs to up the weighted GPA—your kid’s IBs wd do the same). He got a little merit aid/tuition waiver, too (tho eventually switched out with more valuable grandparent tuition waiver).

My sense is that FL likes taking a rigorous sched in your schools context and an extracurricular commitment. Your son seems a good fit for that.

Thanks. I want to say weighted UF recalculated GPA would be a 4.5? Not sure if IB TOK gets the 1.0 point bump since it isn’t a core class. School doesn’t offer honors but took several “accelerated” and “advanced” math and chem classes before starting IB coursework - so not sure if those would get the 0.5 point bump either.

Thanks. That’s the hope! It’ll be a long wait till February…

I think OOS people choose UF bc it’s a very good school and relatively affordable from OOS…even more so if you get the grandparent tuition waiver. It’s also hungry to keep improving, which is nice

It’s happening everywhere !!! CT inflation in public schools is disgusting. But they limit the AP’s cause they don’t have the money or teachers.

Another question - does UF typically request 1st semester grades since decision date is late February? If so, are those calculated into the overall weighted GPA or perhaps just viewed for grade trend purposes?

I was at an information session a few months ago where they said senior schedule/grades are not considered. Not sure if this will change in the future.

I don’t think so, but just have your counselor submit the mid-year report on Common App ASAP after grades are finalized. Then colleges will get that off the common app if they need that.
