UF Engineering Deferment? Confused!

So my brother applied to UF and received a letter saying his application was “deferred”, and there was about a paragraph about the UF-Sante Fe Engineering program. They said he had the option of going to Sante Fe for three semesters, yada yada, and that they’d be in touch, and that they were holding his application “in deferment”. What does that even mean? Is he denied? Or deferred? I’m so confused.
Not to mention, he doesn’t even want to do Engineering anymore…could he switch his intended major and maybe get in?

my friend is in the same situation. he was wandering the same thing. i told him to contact the admission’s office to get a better understanding. you should do the same.

If your brother no longer wants to be an engineer then this is not the program for him. For anyone else who is interest in engineering there is more about the program here

Thank you for the replies! As he no longer wants to do engineering, though, are there any other options for him, or is he denied?

It’s seems like he would be denied if he doesn’t want to be an engineer. I mean from the sound of it, UF is suggesting your brother goes to Santa Fe so that in the next few years he can be reconsidered for admission. If he doesn’t want to be involved in that program…then that’s it.

That’s what it sounded like to me, too, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t being over-negative. Thanks!
