I’m thinking of doing a medical degree after I finish a Master’s or Ph.D. in EE. I know there will be some courses I never had to take ( e.g. Biology sequence) but are required for admission to med school. Do I have a choice of doing the pre-reqs as a non-degree seeking student ( or the equivalent) or do I have to do the courses while I’m still a degree seeking student?

I believe you have to be a non degree seeking student/ post bacc. See [University of Florida - Admissions](The Office of Admissions at the University of Florida)

I know that back at my old 4 year university, there was a certificate called “Pre Med certificate” and basically non degree seeking students complete the pre med reqs and receive that certificate at the end, and it counts to med schools. I was a TA for Bio and had a few older adults taking the class as part of their certificate program.

If you can I recommend taking your pre med course you normally wouldn’t take for your major while your in undergrad. Many of the pre med forums out there seem to suggest UF is happy to take your post bac application for pre med, but no one gets in. The UF post bac is mostly for students who need to take a few course to catch up to be able start a masters in a subject they didn’t major in, and most of these people are trying to get a masters in education. According to some people on those forums it’s because there is no room and you’ll have to head to another school to do your post bac.
