Is it true that University of Florida students all wear jean shorts and have mullets? My friend visited the campus and told me this. I never knew UF was such a hillbilly school.

Here is a description of the student body at the University Of Florida from students who go there:

“The UF student body conjures to mind the “Greek macho man” and the “Barbie blonde” for many, but with undergrad enrollment around 35,000, “it’s hard to define the typical student” here. While the “large, sprawling campus” is home to “more students than can be observed,” even a perfunctory glance reveals “all kinds—jocks, Greeks, religious, political, nonreligious, out-of-staters, international people, intense athletes, and everything in between.” Some here tell us that “the typical student falls into one of two categories. Either the student is a know-it-all who graduated with an IB diploma and had a 4.0, or [he or she] is a slacker who somehow got into UF and now doesn’t take anything seriously except partying.” Because of UF’s size, “There’s a place for everyone to fit in, whether your thing is knitting, rugby, or video games.””

Thanks for the info.

I still don’t know what to make out of this video. This guy reminds me of every UF graduate I’ve ever met.

YouTube - Florida Gators Redneck Chant

That would be an exaggeration…

YouTube - University of Florida Idiot

All the videos on the web show UF as a hillbilly school. I was thinking about applying there as my safety school, but the place looks like a dump. Maybe a UF student can chime in.

You are an obvious flamer and not even a very good one. How ARE things at Wal-Mart?

Hey barrons, are you a UF student? Do you wear jean shorts? Do you have a mullet? Thanks in advance.

No, no and no. Now clean-up in Aisle 12.

^^^^I apologize for insinuating that you were a UF student, didn’t mean to insult you. I’m sure you actually attend a decent university.

Anyone else heard about this?

UF is a redneck school??? I don’t think so. UF is the best university in Florida, and it’s one of the top 50 universities in the country. I have visited UF before, and I can say that it is not a hillbilly school. I mean, I guess if you’re applying to the Ivies, it may look like one. But for just about anyone else, it’s not. North and West Florida are generally pretty redneck (I live in Pensacola), but to say that the university is redneck is simply not true. The average SAT of students who go there is barely under 1300 and the average GPA is like 4.0… I don’t think many people would call that hillbilly. Where are you applying that it looks like a hillbilly school? The fact that UF is a possible safety for you tells me one of two things:

You have amazing stats and you’ll probably end up at an amazing school.

You don’t have amazing stats, and you’ll probably get rejected by UF.

I’m applying to Emory, Miami, Duke, NYU, UNC, and UF (safety).

It just seems like every Gator fan and student I meet, is the textbook definition of a redneck. That seems to be the national perception as well.

Jean shorts: they are “fondly” referred to as JORTS.

Okay, a lot of Gator fans ARE rednecks - but those aren’t the ones going to the school, those are the ones who live in the middle of nowhere, have never attended college, and have chosen to latch onto UF as their team of choice. I currently attend UF and I have only met a small, small handful of people one might classify as redneck. There have been a few pairs of jean shorts, but no mullets in sight.

False.

(are you even serious?!)

There’s a boy who wears a cowboy hat and eats in the Reitz many days, but otherwise the students are not rednecks. They do seem to enjoy some Natty Light as a cheap way to get drunk, but otherwise the general population does not consist of a noticeable number of rednecks.

Every school has its share of not-so-classy fans who come out on game day for far too many hours of drinking. It doesn’t mean the students are these people.

No jean shorts. Not even the socially-acceptable edition worn by most females.

I’m not sure why I’m wasting my time writing this.

BTW: UF > Miami in difficulty of admission.

Please lets not entertain this ■■■■■.

Well UF is ranked in the Top-15 for the total number of International Students. As of Fall 2007 this institution had close to 5,000 students who were not domestic. USC and New York University were ranked 1st & 2nd overall (source was the Chronicle of Higher Education).

Guess what… UF has more total international students then both Emory and the University of Miami.

Time to feed the ■■■■■…
Your answer is no.
It will be hillarious when you get denied at all your “acceptable” schools and have to settle for UF.
IF tUF even takes you.
